ugh. really. TRT only threw a fit because they failed to make the 2011 final and the huge Turkish Diaspora across Europe was watered down a lot. Thing is since the created of the 50/50 system Turkey has done better so i don't see their reason for such dissatisfaction. For me personally i don't want the EBU to make changes, and i think eurovision is a better place without TRT. But i understand what great news this could be for all the Turkish eurovision fans who hope for a return.

What else could they do other than 'throwing a fit' to have their ideas/complaints/suggestions be heard and taken into consideration? The Reference Group, which is responsible for all rules decisions, is exclusively made up of Scandinavians, Germans, one Italian and one Slovene. Others are given no say in the whole matter so they are left to either swallow the total package or decline.

They failed to make the final once and have kicked up such a fuss over it. They should have swallowed their pride, accept it and stop being such a sore loser. Other countries have done worse than them and you don't see them making an issue. Also I don't believe the rules should be changed just for one country who can't handle not qualifying.

Every people talk about diaspora votes for Turkey, on the other hand, noones talk about anti-diaspora votes. No-matter how much quality songs Turkey sends, some countries never vote for Turkey because of historical and religious concern, and cultural disparity. I accept the song in 2011 was not perfect, but one of the reason for elimination, Turkey got lots of these countries who never vote for Turkey, in its group.

Coming to Jury system, I don't believe that it is a fair system as it is perfectly easy to manipulate a few people for your own benefit. In the history, during full jury system, lots of Turkish songs ranked last, although some of them are epic; like this one:

This song got only 3 points from all juries at the end.

Turkey and Greece were clearly grossly underestimated in the jury years, that's true.

TRT's withdrawal has nothing to do with our failure to make it to the final.

no, but the fact Turkey didn't make it created the hate for the new system in TRT.

The song is good, but I think back then the problem was that Turkey was far off in the corner, with only Greece as competing neighbour, if you get me? Western Europe friendly voted for each other in the same way for what eastern Europe is accused off now. Greece, Finland and even Austria who were connected to the competing group didn't do that well back in the day.

Even with the anti-diaspora votes Turkey still does very well with success that other countries could only wish for. The jury system is easily manipulated, but then 100% televote isn't perfect either. People vote for the acts they know, and the music tastes similar to what they know and have in their country as well as language similarities. This system isn't just seen in places such as eastern Europe, but also between Scandinavian countries. France, Spain, Portugal, Italy. United Kingdom, Ireland and even Malta a bit. In fact there is really a few exceptions to this, such as San Marino & Italy. Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Who don't usually vote each very highly despite similarities in language and music.

Greece has still not manage to enter the top10 of the juries 5 years in a row (since 2009).
It reminds me the 90's,where there was only jury! And Greece couldn't enter top10.

Whenever Turkey returns I hope they try something more ethnic again. Something like "Dinle" in 1997. I think they could win with song a like that! It's simply marvellous :D

I wonder if any country will be brave enough, or stupid enough, to bring ethnic again into this contest, knowing just how friendly juries are towards it.
I'm afraid we'll be stuck with dinas garipovas now, lots of them. At best we'll be getting an increasing amount of emmelies, who'll probably be called de lakes or de prairies this time, something looking very very ethnic but sounding like nothing at all.
