How can people be so pre-judgy about something that hasn’t even been released jet?

Well, I guess they searched for older songs of him on YouTube and didn´t like them and since his ESC entry most likely won´t be all that different they don´t think it´ll be good. xshrug

Easy. See his music genre, his style. Man doesn't have to be clever to see that it is joke entry and doesn't apease to jurry votes. And because we had many copies. Like when maneskin won, there were rock songs following year. I don't like anything about kaarja and overhype. Now it won't be even near so many points as with kaarja.

You could show the man a bit more respect before calling him a joke entry. I get your language isn't Dutch but lyrically he's often far from a joke, and he's played the biggest festivals in the Benelux this year, for thousands of people who went crazy for him.

I understand his music isn't your thing, but to immediately call something that isn't your thing "a joke entry" is disrespectful to say the least.

Apart from the incredible Waylon in 2018 every other dutch entry since before some adults were even born, was either "just good" at best, or a complete torture to listen to at worst.
It's nice to see a change of pace. I have a feeling Joost will be amazing xyaaay

Tumblr, mostly.
Omg not another kaarja. Ohhh netherlands what are you doing again.
They're very alike for people who don't know either of them.

I dunno what to think. I knew Joost was campaigning to do esc but no one appeared to take him seriously, so i am surprised they did choose him. It's a bold choice in that he's the opposite NL used to go for. For the past few years, the Dutch have carefully planned every minute detail of their entries, and Joost isn't that sort of entrant. He's a wildcard who cannot be micromanaged.

But yeah, Käärijä seems like the obvious comparison but I don't think they're that alike. I think the more apt analogy is Little Big, if that makes sense. The same sort of "camp", the same obnoxious honky music and the same propensity for memes.

Defo 100% getting the Belgian televote twelve though no matter what, so I guess it's another year where casting a vote as a Belgian is utterly pointless. Unless the Dutch song is trash, of course :-)

... how can a country with such a great music scene constantly continue to disappoint. I never heard of him but having spent some time listening to a few of his songs I can say I'm thoroughly unimpressed. I hope his Eurovision song is better because I didn't like a single song I've listened to from him.

I'm excited about Joost Klein. This is the first day I've heard of him. I've listened to some of his songs, and I like that the Netherlands is going in a new direction. Joost may be flamboyant, but I don't see him as the Dutch Käärijä. From the performances that i've watched, Joost is clearly his own person who I'm sure will bring something new and interesting to Eurovision. I'm looking forward to hearing his song for ESC 2024.

I can’t take this thread serious anymore. People writing „not another Käärijä“ are so ridiculous. First there’s no song yet to compare to Käärjä, second this means you want only Mia & Dion songs and other slow disaster songs at Eurovision?!

I've checked some of his songs, I don't feel like he is similar with Käärijä at all. His songs remind me of those forced joke songs Norway/Sweden does sometimes, combined with sth like "Woki Mit Deim Popo".

I'm not crazy about this internal selection, but I'm willing to be pleasantly surprised. Although I enjoyed the recent Dutch competent era, it was getting a bit same-y.

Sometimes I get the impression that a certain fraction of Euro-fans don‘t even listen to songs.

2 girls on stage —> „SISTERS!!“
an electric guitar —> „MANESKIN!!“
An unusual outfit or attitude —> „KÄÄRIJA!!“

but then (not necessarily the exact same person):

Euphoria and Tatoo —> „THAT‘S SOOOO NEW, SOOO DIFFERENT!! NOTHING ALIKE!!!“

xroflxroflxrofl

The kaarija comparisons are because they are both eccentric rappers which is something very rarely seen at eurovision it's not surprising that people are bringing him up. But obviously their music is not the same as joost goes more into jokey territory
