He performed together with a band that sponsored Russia's program for Ukrainian refugees but at the same time went against Ukrainian army. The lyrics "I love Russia" from him was very questionable in 2022.

Of course it could be a label's decision, but it won't add him points here.

The Dutch have finally done something not safe i am imagining windmills across the land exploding

Yes correct please save me due to the explosion I'm stuck under a brick of Gouda cheese

In all honesty when looking at the reactions it seems like the < 25 y/o are happy, the > 25 y/o are angry

I don't like his music but I like that your broadcaster is doing something different, I don't think they would've picked this if Finland didn't do so well this year

Exactly my thoughts as well, I really do like that they finally grasped the idea that we don't have to send something with real, deep meaning just because we won with a song like that in 2019.
The only thing I don't like is when countries try to repeat success of the year before, and like you said, it really feels like Cha Cha Cha opened the door for this kind of music so AVROTROS immediately jumping on that train feels a bit meh

Anyways, curious to hear the actual song, it might be a banger!!!!!

Apparently the band fled and after leaving ruZZia, they protested the war.
Hey guys!
We left Russia and we can talk about war. This war is a terrible tragedy for Ukrainians and for many Russian people, who do not support it. We are people of art and have never associated ourselves with politics, but now is the time when it doesn't matter. This war is a business of every single person on our planet. We are going to make our planned shows and donate money from fees to the project truerussia.org, created for supporting the refugees from Ukraine.
True Russia is kindness, love and friendship. We are proud to be a true Russians!

Unless you know more about their intention(s)? I think they didn't mean to harm anyone?

It’s so classic that some fans already start comparing him to :fi: without knowing his song. It was the same with rock entries after :it: 2021.

So after Maneskin no more Rock entries, after Käärijä no more uptempo fun entries because „ItS ToO SImILaR!!!“ ?? Tbh that’s so ridiculous.

My reaction: A very interesting choice that makes me very curious and that I didn’t expect at all. :nl: has a tradition in eurodance and other kind of party music so why not? It brings some fresh air after a bunch of very safe, slow entries. And I love to see Dutch back at Eurovision even though it’s not the most beautiful language in Europe haha.

Friesenjung has been a huge success also in :at: btw.

I‘m 27 so maybe the theory with <25/30 being enthusiastic about this choice is true haha.

Hahahahaha Donnie
this is so incredibly not what I would ever have expected from AVROTROS based on our entries the last couple of years but it is so extremely.. well, DUTCH

Donnie made a song with Rotterdam 2021 host Chantal Janzen:

And honestly, this one was a major hit in the Netherlands with a member of the Toppers (:nl: 2009)

It couldn't be more different than our 2023 entry and I really, really appreciate AVROTROS for that

Won't be my cup of hot chocolate, but it's still an interesting and refreshing choice. But I am not certain how it will do in May, not to talk about if the Juries will have an affinity to this. And ... I don't see many similarities to Finland's song last year.

Käärijä opened Pandora's box  I want 5MIINUST for Estonia too, and more entries like this, so they could battle each other out.
Nothing wrong with taking a risk at all. I'm excited 5Miinust are competing in Eesti Laul. Very likely will be one of my favotite entries from the selection. I am not excited at all about Joost Klein being the Dutch representative for Eurovision this year based on what I've heard from his music.

Gave a listen to a few of his songs and they're all just cringe. I guess we'll have another final without the Netherlands this year.

I always find it funny that people are jumping to conclusions so fast ("another final without the Netherlands etc") without even hearing the actual song. Let alone seeing how he performs it. Y'all have no clue what the song will be like. Can you hold the drama until you've heard it?

How can people be so pre-judgy about something that hasn’t even been released jet?
