More Views in 1 Day then Mia and Dion in 1 Year.

I would like this Song more with a different Timing.

Also entered Germany's Top 10 which is huge since a lot of new songs get released on Thursday (Joost is right there between all the bigger names in the German rap scene like Apache 207, Capital Bra and Farid Bang, loving the contrast haha).

This will definitely get some points from the public in the German-speaking countries. Can't speak for Austria, but the 90's 'trash music' is still huge in Germany and Europapa fits right in (positively speaking).

It's a little weird to me how the fandom picked this one to hate from all the "novelty" acts this year.
I feel like it's one of the two that actually seem authentic and not forced.. that's the one to beat for me.
I agree with that post a 1000 percent. Sometimes I’m really wondering a lot about cliché Eurofans.

I've upgraded my 6 to 7 points. Of all the.. let's say novelty entries this year (Croatia, Finland, Estonia, Switzerland etc) it's Europapa that feels the most lovingly crafted. What I especially like about it is how there's emotional weight here that you can actually feel. That little spoken word outro bit with the burning windmill hits me quite hard during each experience with the song. Imagine the staging potential. It's a unique aspect for a song of its kind and could lead to a real moment in Malmö.

Also, whereas the other whacky entries this year either annoy or repel me with cringe antics, Joost I think is charming actually in a very similar way to how Käärijä was. He's extra but carries it kinda cutely. Of course, he does tread a fine line but I think he manages it.. just about. We don't know the staging plans yet but this feels like a televote front runner if they get everything right.

Heck, you can have an :8: from me. You only live once and I'm feeling generous.. and lowkey touched

I can’t speak for everyone but from my perspective, I’ve been very consistent in my liking (or hating to be more precise) of all these ‘novelty’ songs.

I don’t see the authenticity with this song - it just doesn’t come across to me at all and I don’t know if it will to the general viewers at home. The wackiness will be the main facet they get from it surely?

For me, this, Finland, Estonia and Croatia’s songs are all cynical attempts at trying to copy Cha Cha Cha. They all lack a genuine feeling to me.

'Novelty' entries existed before Cha cha cha too. This year we are getting back to 00s but in a good way so far.

I don’t think anyone has said or try to claim otherwise.

The early 00s Eurovision era - which I grew up with - was certainly from a UK perspective where the reputation of Eurovision was an at all time low because of wacky/novelty songs appearing to be the norm.

It’s why the last few years where the dial has switched to more credible music that it’s improved here - with a lot of help down to Sam Ryder of course - but last year we had several of the top songs all in the charts because Eurovision has become more accessible and credible imo.

Acts like this risk that hard work being undone.

Removing juries from semifinals is one of the reasons this happens but also in national finals it's obvious that people are crazy for such entries. People always liked such stuff but juries in semifinals made it less obvious. Juries are important for Eurovision and you can see the reason this year already.

Anyway don't forget that final will have juries so you don't have to worry for a top10 full of novelties and the points may eventually split between all these entries. Juries will surely push lower some of them. Finland won't finish higher than 15th for example and Netherlands doesn't look like top10 either and i say that as someone who likes it quite a lot.

I totally get the dislike, they're not for everybody. They aren't usually my thing either, but since we got so many this year - might as well enjoy them for what they are.

About the "authenticity" part.. from what I gather, Joost (and Estonia's act, I believe too) has been doing similar music for a while now.
I also agree that if Cha Cha Cha didn't have the success that it had, we probably wouldn't have all these entries/if any at all, but that doesn't change the fact that it feels true to Joost and his past work and it's also painfully Dutch too. It's painted with the same brush as Finland last year, yes, but completely different colours.

The fact that Joost has more views (3.1 million!) in a single day than any other video uploaded to the official channel I think speaks volumes here. No matter what the fandom think, Europapa has already taken off and now the sky is the limit xLO Watch out.
That song trending in :at: at no 1, not even in the music category, in the general category (!) is very impressive to me. I think we never really had that with any Eurovision song here.

Tumblr, mostly.
Hm, you expect the betting odds to rise if he's to be a fave, and they have but not by much. Just middle of the pack so far.

I hear the calls that this is more authentic than Finland and fully agree. Windows95man sings about how life has no rules! do as you like! nothing matters! life is shit anyway! and it rings hollow because he's a man in his late 30s who has to get followers by making flat jokes about masturbation.

Windows95man weaponizes zoomer ideology for his own personal gain , but Joost lives and breathes it.

In a way I feel sorry for Joost? The song's nihilistic and irreverent and ironic, but that's all a giant coping mechanism for all the shit's he's been though - youtuber at 11, both parents dead at 12, drop out at 16 (i believe) and currently living as a drifter, sleeping in a van. Societies that properly protect its citizens and embrace their outcasts do not produce Joosts. Nor are they keen on embracing someone who flies into the face of general taste and traditions.

If our society functioned perfectly we would have no need for Joosts, and the Joosts of this world would not be Joosts if you get what I mean.

So I guess that at the end, I begrudgingly respect the intent. I still dislike the song because it's you know, bunch of nonsense copium, with anti-humour that falls flatter than Kaleen's cleavage, and also nearly impossible to make work live if you don't got for a stupid degenerate memshit staging, but yes, it's authentic. This is an authentic Rodolfo Chikilicuatre. When life does you in really dirty and you're a zoomer, this is where you end up. That makes me feel sadness, not joy, so the :3: I gave remains.

But at least he's better than that Finnish scammer.

I've been fully on board with the weird entries so far this year (Croatia, Estonia, Finland, plus Switzerland if you count that), but this one isn't really doing it for me. The verses are fun, with a good beat (especially in the second), but the song seems to lose a lot of energy in the chorus... and then the rave part's a bit meh, and the ending is nice but the transition to it feels kind of... abrupt? Incohesive? Not sure I'm a fan of his vocals either.

Add to all that that I at least appreciate the song trying to be different, and I'm interested to see how it's done live, and I end up with :5: for now.
I feel like what makes the ending so good is the fact that it's so abrupt. It's supposed to give a somewhat emotional whiplash and it does so through the music.

As a dutchie, I am OK with this... takes me back to the 90ties, crazy times with my gabber-friends (I was more metal but I got along with the gabbers quite well). This is the most dutch thing ever, in a good way :D

Ah, NL passed finland in the odds, as it should because this one is just much better.
