Oh dear, Saturday will be very interesting. I got no clue who will win, but Conchita might end up on the very top. This would be a very typical ESC story.

Not accepting the abnormal makes someone bad today. Oh this world...
I prefer to be bad than accepting whatever they serve me, thanks!

Fair enough. IMO it's more abnormal the rejection that it generates in some people just because of her look. That's something abnormal.
I read your comments (and some other's) about Conchita and I think you are abnormal, however I accept you how you are.

Man with long hair and a beard, dressed in a gown, singing about being reborn. Anyone else getting the Jesus-vibe?

I have thought she looked like jesus several times, but I don't think it's intended, lol. Long hair and beard will inevitably make that connection. I don't think the gown is in the same line at all though

Conchita Sausage is a hero for me.
I'm a grandma and now I can stop plucking my beard and feel sexy again

Yes. The point is respect. You don't like her? Ok, no need to say it is repulsive as the island girl said, because that's offensive and shows a lack of respect. Maybe being offensive to others is "normal" for her. For me that is abnormal: there are many things (and many people) I don't like in this world, but I don't insult them publicly.

Yes, because a grown man crossdressing is definitely "normal" xbow xrofl3
Anyway, I love the song regardless, but seriously, he would look much better as a dude... or at least he should've shaved his beard if he decided to crossdress xcrazy

Normal in the sense of number of people amongst the whole World population? No. Normal in the sense of something you have to respect? Yes. I am not saying at all that you have to like it, as likes are a completely personal thing, but you do have to show the due respect. Many people here have said they don't like it, ok; saying it is repulsive was just a bit too far.

And yes, he would have looked for you and for me (maybe not for others) better as a man, as he is a handsome guy. Or maybe just shaved. But this is his bet: a bearded woman.

If a man wants to dress as a woman, being a character or not, is totally up to him, I don't see anything abnormal on that.
Who got the power to say "you have to dress like this or that...or you have to shave". Nobody. But it's totally respectable if some other people wants to follow what their religion, family or society comand...I prefer people who follows their own beliefs and desires, and that's what Conchita wants to transmit. She wanted to shave the beard once but suddenly she asked herself "Why should I? I like it, so why should I shave it?" And that's all.

Try to define "normal" before.
If you think, normal is what most people do, than you come into quite awkward situations. The majority of people cheats on their partner at least once. Is it then "normal" to do so?
I'd rather persume (and correct me, if I'm wrong), that you mean by "normal", what you consider suitable according to your personal taste and belief. And that is your right and many people would argue like this. But taste and belief are changeable and subjective. And this is where tolerance comes in. The best way to describe it is (according to Voltaire if I'm not mistaken): "I think your opinion is wrong, but I'd fight my life for your right to express it". So even if you think Tom is wrong to crossdress AND wear a beard, a tolerant reaction would be: he should have to right to do so! For an example of an intolerant reaction, search the forum and you'll find plenty of them.... ;)

I wonder what would people say if he decided to dress as a dog or a guinea pig? Would it be: "Oh hey, you want to be a dog, it's cool bro, fine with me"?. No. It would be more like: "Pfff, what an idiot! Dressing up as a dog like some clown. NON QUALIFICATION, PLZ!".

Yeah, right

Of course he has the right. After all, he's not the first one to do that and will probably not be the last one as well. But I also have the right to dislike it.

Of course it qualified, and I must say it's a beautiful song, he/she sings well.

And announcing Austria last was not random at all, I think.

I think it's best to say that seeing a bearded man in a woman's gown is not very common  Conchita is a character though, she is not a real person. There are so many interesting unconventional characters in movies and literature, why is Conchita as a character considered so shocking?
Everyone has the right to like/dislike this entry. You also don't have to be politically correct about it, I personally prefer people saying what they think instead of giving polished answers.

 Some hilarious posts here.

But I've stopped reading most of the posts about sex/gender, normal/abnormal. It's a complete NON-issue for me. And terribly outdated

The song and performance are simply too bombastic for me. I can handle a certain amount of kitsch, camp & drama but this is all a LITTLE bit too much. But I don't dislike it :D

Well, first you mixed gender and sexuality and now human beings with animals. Fine. Enough said.

xrofl3 See, you just proved me point! You wouldn't like it! But if he decided to dress up as a dog, he would have the full right to do so ;)

You wish.
Get your facts straight dear... I won't debate with a wall not even try to convince you to approve my point.
