Conchita Wurst and Bear Grylls. That should be...interesting.
It seems androgyny is having a revival in pop culture, now that the 80's are long gone........ I like it!
I completely understand that people are upset with an act winning instead of a song, but you have to understand that Conchita's performance trancended any rules. In the end it was about something bigger than the song. It was art in my opinion, and I think something that rare deserves recognition.
Also, this year had no obvious smash hits like "Fairytale" or "Euphoria", so I guess it all had to come down to the performances, and in that regard Conchita deserved the win.
If you compare the first song, she was trying to represent Austria (That's what I am), with this one, I'm not so sure if she had won... But this time everything fit together. Text, music, voice, staging, performance...

An act winning instead of a song? Sure, the performance and the act may have helped, but it only won because of the song it was representing. The song was very good quality, and it won on it's own merits. Conchita wouldn't win if the song was weak.
Also, I'm pretty sure some people would have liked the song if it was sung by a "normal" loooking man or woman.
I guess we will never know if it was the song or the act that did it. I think the song is very cliché and a bit insignificant. I know that's just my personal taste, but I can't imagine a regular person would be as successful with it. I believe Conchita was at the right place at the right time, and even though I'm not loving the song, I'm happy about the statement she has made.
