Apparently, there is a petition in :by: in order to remove Conchita Wurst from the broadcasting of the contest...

Belarus to Remove Conchita Wurst from Eurovision Broadcast?

If that's how they feel then I hope EBU will ask Belarus to kindly leave the contest. It will be a shame for us all to miss our yearly unintentional comedy entry that Belarus treats us to.. but if thats their views then they shouldn't be in the contest. They can start up their own special contest with stars such as Anastasia Vinnikova and Alyona fighting it out, singing soviet disco in very mysterious english as an audience of motionless, straight faced men look on (I would watch this contest).

Did EBU "kindly" ask Russia to leave the contest when they didn't show parts of the 2013 show? Did they "kindly" ask Azerbaijan to leave after cheating pretty much since they debuted?

The fact that EBU have looked past many wrong-doings in the past and direct rule-breaking, would make them look very hypocrite if they somehow would give some countries free-passes and some not.

Anyways, as far I understand there's just some petition in Belarus? So hardly an actual decision by its broadcaster. Then again, Russian TV banned parts of the show in 2013 and got away with it...

Which parts of this year's Eurovision did Channel 1 not broadcast?

I'm going to take a wild guess with Finlands Lesbian kiss?

According to some sources they didn't show the Finnish kiss, and apparently they didn't show the interval act Swedish smörgåsbord at all.

The interval act is not obligatory to broadcast. RTP never did so. Instead broadcasters can choose to show commercials.
And it's not clmparable not to broadcast a two second kiss and not to broadcast an entire performance (bear in mind that I don't agree with not broadcasting the kiss).
Anyway if BTRC agrees they will be disqualified just like Lebanon in 2005. BTRC won't agree though, exactly because of this.

According to other source that is the gossip. We all know in what kind of political system is Belarus today but they are not idiots and extremists.

That's not true, they did broadcast the Finnish performance fully both in the semifinal and the final. And broadcasters aren't obligated to screen the interval act and quite a few never do and show adverts instead.

As some of you responded already; Yup, it's true, broadcasters aren't forced to show the interval acts if they don't want to, I was just pointing out that in Russia it was banned for political reasons. But yeah, not against the rules, but still questionable behavior. If they didn't show the Finnish kiss however, then they would have broken the rules.

As for this Belarus thing, the source seem to be Oikotimes which is mostly made up gossip and propaganda. Secondly, if the petition is true it's just a petition afterall, it's not something the broadcaster has officially stated any opinion on.

Exactly. Like somebody said, anybody can make a petition now. BTRC surely will not listen.

I don't agree with censorship of anything. The broadcast should be the entire televised show and if people object to certain things then they can change channels or do something while the objectionable piece is being aired. If a large number of viewers are likely to be offended by something then their broadcaster should give them fair warning that it is coming up (can say so before an ad break or something). Eurovision organizers also should continue to prevent overly politicization and anything too vulgar, as to what is too much well I suppose a liberal attitude to defining it would be best.

I personally didn't watch that much of the Swedish grandfinal interval act because it didn't appeal to me (I was a bit embarrassed for the poor host tbh). I doubt I will watch the Austrian entry in its entirety during the broadcast, good time for a toilet or food break.

Considering that interval act got Petra hugely positive reviews worldwide, I don't think you have any reason to be embarrassed for her.

I was shocked when Conchita was announced to represent Austria next year. I quite liked "That's What I Am" back in 2012 preselection, but I do not expect best result this time from Austria... sorry! :(

I loved the interval act (even if it had political undertones)... there's nothing to be embarrassed for, one of the most entertaining interval acts in ESC history!

Conchita was just on the Saturday night show here in Ireland. She sang that's what I am. I had heard it a few weeks ago when I saw she was representing Austria. It was a bit of a surprise to hear it playing on the TV in the other room. :p

The host talked to her a bit about issues with her appearance, her trying to fit in but never really working out...that kind of stuff. Conchita seemed very friendly and a bit of a character.

Here is the video of that performance and interview in Ireland. I thought Conchita would talk with a normal man's voice, but no! He/she really speaks in a female way with a female voice. He's really into character!

Start around minute 23:

Well, he confirmed several times in that interview that Conchita is just an act and that he is a man named Tom when not working. So can we stop saying she now?
