How could we know yet if the song is going to be good or bad just based on her previous attempt? xshrug

Well, it gives you an idea of what Conchita's style is. It could be something completely different, but so far I just can't expect anything good for my taste xshrug

Conchita can become the new Verka or she can stick to a serious ballad and bomb because there's not a single hint on a good vocal abilities (even for a drag), together with such image it works against the whole entry.

See, this is the whole problem with this Conchita act, it's a gimmick act yet he pretends to be some sort of Whitney Houston (pre-crack) on stage... it just doesn't fit. The image is a gimmick and he has very limited vocal abilities, so it all turns out dreadfully embarrassing.

I don't think he could pull off a Verka epice moment because he doesn't have the charisma - nerve and talent to do so! In fact he seems very stiff even for his ballad attempts, which further proves that he is 100% relying on this gimmick look because otherwise he would have never been brought onto a stage in the first place because frankly there's nothing to see (or hear), so now he's taking the role as the "bearded lady" instead. Atleast Azis has the swagger, personality and fitting music to pull this mixed-gender image off and come across as believable.

I don't have the time to read through the whole tread but can someone explain what exactly Conchita Wurst is all about? Is it suppose to be a drag queen act like RuPaul or some bearded lady act you see at the circus cause there is a difference right? Am I suppose to identify Conchita as a woman or just a man who dresses in woman clothes but isn't suppose to be a drag queen? Is Conchita supposed to be called him or her cause I'm seeing both around here.

Judging from the last 2/3 pages most people see it as a gimmick but I'm confused by that too because of the style of singing I've seen doesn't fit that at all. The style of singing suggests something serious but the beard to me at least says the opposite. Frankly Conchita is too confusing to watch cause all I can pay attention to is the beard when I feel like I'm suppose be looking at a woman cause men don't wear dresses.

Personally I believe you can dress in drag if you want to but the beard has to go otherwise you should dress as a man. I feel like you can't have both. Its really confusing and I'm not sure what to think.

Well, seems everyone have their own interpretation of this act, but I stick to my opinion that this is an untalented gay man who uses the "bearded lady" image as a gimmick to even be allowed onto a stage, and while doing that he thinks in his mind that he is some sort of big-wailing American singer, while in fact he should be singing some gimmicky novelty songs because he doesn't have the abilities to pull off a big ballad, nor does the act fit with it. It all ends up confusing and tragically embarrassing to say the least and more like an unintentional mockery act against LGBT-people in general and ORT picking him is just boosting the prejudices against ESC even further imo. People have compared him to Verka, which imo is a totally pointless comparison because Verka is a tongue-in-cheek novelty act who doesn't pretend to be anything else than that, while this one is an untalented singer who relies on a dreadful gimmick to get some sort of attention while trying to act all "serious" about it all.

When I think big-wailing American singer I think of Yohanna 2009 or even Pastora Soler in 2012 with the HUGE glory note at the end and Conchita doesn't have that. The voice is feminine sounding but when they get to what's suppose to be the big ending it sounds like what a man does because they don't have the ability to sing like a female does. Its like what a man does when they cover a female song on those TV talent shows when they don't do a rearrangement to fit their voice if that makes any sense.

I don't see Austria getting past the semi even with a good position. The voice while pleasant isn't that strong and the beard makes the whole act confusing.

You know **** just got real when I agree with every word of an A-Lister post.

If they send him/her with a song similar to the one (s)he had in the 2012 NF, I feel like this is just going to be Denmark 2007 part 2 except a painted beard instead of a plume. Although I think DQ was a stronger vocalist.

In my opinion Denmark 2007 is not a fair comparison at all cause unlike this Denmark understood it was a gimmick and were very tongue and cheek with their costume and performance (at least it was to me). I don't think DQ took itself too seriously like this apparently does. Unfortunately for Denmark Verka happened the same year and did the gimmick MUCH better therefore annihilating any possible chance they could have had.

I must admit the cheeky-ness of the name though. I mean... does it get more gender neutral than "vagina penis".

Her 2012 entry was no good imo, but still I'm excited to see what they're gonna come up with this time. If it HAS to be in the typical drag queen genre, at least make it a bit less boring.

DQ never had to face Verka as Ukraine was prequalified that year so that didn't play a role. I think that Denmark would have qualified if they had 2 Semis that year, there was just too much competition out there and 17 or 18 songs were eliminated.

I know DQ and Verka never faced off but I remember the hype for Verka as a potential winner that year was huge. Everybody was talking about Verka and DQ looked lame and boring in comparison. I remember even when Denmark performed some commentators mentioned Verka. Some people online were also talking about the anti-Verka vote to make sure it didn't win cause that type of act would destroy ESC's credibility.

I agree though with 2 semis the chances for DQ to qualify and make the final increased dramatically since it would have stood out more in comparison to others in the semi. I actually did like the song  and the performance wasn't bad either.

Too bad that Austria decided to send a joke entry ... I'm afraid that this is one of those entries that'll be purposely shown on every channel when they'll talk about Eurovision 2014. You know, just to make fun of it. :D

I'm surprised people think DQ would qualify, it was a very traditional and boring drag act with a cliché song imo, Verka was something completely new to the masses though, so I'm not exactly seeing the comparison. I doubt DQ would have done any wonders tbh, regardless of semi-final system.
