In Turkey, people blame everything. Lots of people even criticize Serap's winner song Every way that I can since it was in English. So you cannot prevent this, or when you send in turkish (like more ve otesi) some others criticize why not in English.

On the other hand, this diaspora accuse put me off ESC. Before Sertap's win, the interest of people to ESC was quite low. As Sertap won, the interest of people and TRT increased in Turkey. TRT started to select the singers and songs very carefully. Previously the goal was to show some Turkish stuff in ESC. Because in Turkey, people have that common belief as Europeans have biases for Turkish people. They're never going to select a turkish entry as winner. But after Sertap's win this view has changed to get another winner and send an interesting song. You can observe this difference very clearly. Before Sertap, there was almost no Turkish entry in English but in last 10 years all songs were in English except 2 of them.

If I rank ESC Turkish entries, most of them is going to be from last 10 years. At least in my opinion, it was not just coincidence or diaspora. Sertap's win pushed everything to send better entries. Especially seeing 4 rock songs in last 8 years for me was quite fun.

Well, that's true, Turkey sends great songs most of the time. They do have a little push because of the diaspora though. Rimi rimi ley and Superstar were pretty weak, and both finished 11th, way above what they should have finished.

Yes I totally agree with you. Rimi rimi ley and Superstar are over-ranked even though they were not in top 10. I can also add Shake it up shekerim to this list. Yuksek Sadakat couldn't go to even finals in 2011. It was also a bad song. I think all of other 6 songs in last 10 years deserved to be in top 10. And I think especially Athena - For real (2004) under-ranked. For me, it's best Turkish entry ever.

I agree! Superstar was 36th (out of 37 entries) in my rankings. It is one of the most annoying songs I've ever heard! Rimi Rimi Ley isn't much better either (37th out of 39 entries in my rankings).

Tastes differ. Both entries are in my Top3 for their respective years whereas We could be the same (the IMHO only bad Turkish entry in the 21st century) would of been like 20 positions lower if the decision had been up to me.

Hmm, I will never get the hate for 'Rimi Rimi Ley'. It seems people base their taste on what ends up the highest on the scoreboard and not what they actually like.

'Rimi Rimi Ley' is one of my fav Turkish entries. 'Süperstar' however I can't stand.

To say that Turkish diaspora didn't help out in the last decade is a lie, and when it comes to countries like Germany - Turkey always got the highest points since the introduction of televotes. But yeah, it's true that before Sertab's win Turkey were not as lucky, but I think something like Can didn't deserve a top. 10 for instance, so in a sense Turkey really has made up for their lack of success during the jury years, but then again the entries weren't that good imo and when they were good (like 'Dinle' which is the best Turkish entry to date imo) then Turkey did end up high at the scoreboard without the help of televoting.

^ True although Dinle would not have been so high without the couple of televotes that were already used in 1997. Turkey was highly disadvantaged under the jury era and two lower Top10s ('successes') in about twenty years by no means reflect the overall quality the Turkish entries had back then.

Yes but Dinle did very well among juries too, without that, those 5 countries with televote wouldn't do much for Şebnem's result. Checking the voting - 12 points from Spain, 7pt from Italy, 7pt from Iceland... those were 100% juries and countries not really Turkey-friendly in the voting.

But I totally agree with you, Turkey before Dinle was extremely underrated, after Everyway that I can - in few cases overrated (my opinion: 2005-a bit, 2006-a bit,2007-very, 2012-much).

What goes around comes back around. How pathetic. They got attention they wanted and now they're back.

They should not be allowed to return. A deadline is a deadline.
If they want to enter, they should only do so next year. A rule is a rule, no matter which country is in question.

One more gossip, completely lie.
"Turkey wants to take Big 6", "Turkey is about to coming back to contest"
What is next? "Turkey bought EBU"??

Funnier think is that, most of people believe and make comment even they don't have any official source.

Just because I made a comment it doesn't mean I believe that statement is definetely true. I just stated my opinion in case that would happen, but I know EBU aren't idiots like that.

NEGOTIATIONS BRING BACK TURKEY?
Nothing is done with Turkey yet. Until January 17 a lot of things can happen one of them is to see the country back in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013. Secure sources told oikotimes.com that rumors on the web about background negotiations are ongoing but there is no decision reached especially when TRT is pressuring the EBU on the BIG 5 system and jury ruling. It seems that Turkish Prime Minister is also involved in these negotiations and everything is still open!

The bold parts are both tragic and hilarious and most likely? untrue

I actually don't want Turkey back if they're gonna act like this. It's a shame that one of the countries that was one of the biggest diaspora voting benefiter for the bast decade (no need in denying this fact) is acting sore losers now that they can't only rely on those biased votes as much anymore.

However, the jury system IS corrupt and should atleast been rerformed, but it's hardly something that has been working against Turkey though imo.

As much as I want comebacks, I'm not supporting a sore loser that uses pressure as a tool for coming back. So if Turkey will comeback now everyone knows that they bought EBU and get some special treatment, that's certainly not something to support.
