Another pretty shocking and unexpected withdrawal.

The reasons that TRT stated for withdrawal are.......well, if it wasn't funny it would be sad.

I hope from EBU to make its efforts to convince Turkey not to withdraw and to take part in Malmo. Although, I believe that nothing will change because TRT maybe has an order to do that!

I saw the title "TURKEY 2013 - not taking part" and said to myself "oh, Turkey is sending a rock band again?"

Seriously, that was a shocker! I'd expect any country to withdraw apart or Turkey!

Why no juries in the semi-final?
In 2010 Turkey was ranked high by the judges... ok in 2011 not but also not in televoting
I think when you erase the Big 5, then some countries of Big 5 will withdraw

And to EBU, Big 5 is more and more important than others.
Obviously there will be no change because of that, but this is still bad news.

There is something happened about comparison between Sha-La-La (Netherlands 2010) and We Could Be The Same (Turkey 2010). Seriously? This is like comparasing between an apple and orange. One of them is pop (or something like that? I'm not sure), another one is rock music.
Netherlands wants to keep taking place which means Turkey has to keep taking place anyway?

Of course there are other countries in worse situations than Turkey; Netherlands like you said, Israel (completely politic victim), Switzerland, Belgium etc. But, come on. Let's talk about songs, otherhand. How much songs were there in 2010 as rock? What about SONGS, instead to directly by country?

People can't understand difference between the decision of the state (I directly mean the decision of TRT) and the nation's people. I wonder how many Turkish people would want to withdraw from contest... TRT's giving a break means Turkish people wants to take a break anyway?

Don't be racist or selfish, please. No one has a right to cost TRT's decision to Turkish people. TRT might have done something stupid. But some people directly bring account to Turks. That so so non-sense.

Let's wish for the best coming back for 2014 like Italy did and live in PEACE. xyes

But actually, Turkey is right, imo. The whole jury thing is just crap - it should win the song, which the most people in Europe like, not that who just a few "experts" like.

I thought Turkish people loved watching ESC!

Oh, they do, why do you suspect that ? the decision was not given with a referendum or something.

I don't know why there are so much people in the world who are unable to distinguish the institutions and the people. Especially in this age where the youth are supposed to have some intellectual accumulation.

They may be right in a way, but the benefit of getting rid of the impact of diaspora votes is bigger than the possible disadvantages imo. Anyway, the voting system is most likely not the true motivation behind withdrawing from Eurovision, so who cares?

Oh SORRY for my utter ignorance ;)

It would just make sense for a broadcaster to show things that people like to watch, you know, to make some sort of profit from ads before or after the show. But seeing there's a fundamental element in question when the decision was made, then public interest is non-tangential.

If they're excuses are real then it's beyond ridiculous. Turkey finished 7th this year, 2nd in 2010 and 4th in 2009! What do they want? To win all the times?
I cant believe what TRT is saying.

TRT is a state television and does not seek any profit. And it's not watched that much compared to the major private channels, with the exception of a recent tv series they made which is really quality and Eurovision.

I suspect they confuse this contest with the Game of Thrones in which you win or you die.

They just think they are justice fighter or something. They are against any kind of unfairness whether it goes in favour of them or not.

To think that a few months ago we were hoping for a new record regarding participants and now countries are dropping out like flies.

If I were to make a list of countries that I wouldn't have been surprised of droping out Turkey wouldn't have been one of them.
