The real question is:
Which country will get 12 points from Azerbaijan? xrofl2

According to rumours they've begun to start negotiations with the Eurovision committee to be exempted from giving 12 points since it's only and only special to Turkey. They can give 13 points instead.

Now this was completely unexpected. I hope it's not true or something

How significant that this decision has come out shortly after the budget negotiations in the parliament. The current account deficit is getting bigger and bigger so the government has begun to feel need to reduce some spendings which they see as " unnecessary " (that's why they also withdrew from the CERN project, citing the expense), scaring that they could not fool the people that our economy is magnificant anymore in case of a crisis!

Can a Turkish speaker sum up this article?

In short, they say televoting has played a great role in Turkey’s getting higher places since 2000. And they believe that between 2003-2010 years when there was no jury, we’d been more successful. and also they add that jury’s voting is in favor of Big 5. So we withdraw, Europe!

Actually I don't know all this talk about the votes from Azerbaijan to Malta... there are Ukraine, Georgia, Russia who are more likely to get their 12 points etc.

:az: & :mt:

2008 - different semifinals, Malta not qualifying
No points to Malta in 2009
2010 - see 2008
2011 - 7 points in the semifinal, Malta didn't qualify for the final
2012 - AZ didn't vote in second semifinal, 8 to Malta in the final

It's more the other way round! 3 douze points from us to :az: in a row!

I must also say that "This is the night" was quite popular here

You mean 2003-2008, juries joined in 2009. And it's quite silly for them to think that the Big 5 are being favored. Ask the UK and Spain (except 2012)

Actually they didn't say that the big five was being favoured. They implied that bringing jury was all about changing the situation in favor of the big five.

So they basically admitted that Turkey benefits from televote... sorry, but that's such a bitter reason to withdraw!

yeah, juries joined in 2009 but to TRT they joined in 2011. how ironic this is! they don't even know it.

Sad :( but I think some Turkish ESC fans exaggerate it aloooot. The reason why I'm sad is that our stupid govt is breaking bonds with Europe gradually.
Eurovision whatsoever won't lose its spirit for me.
I think most of our songs are mediocre and lacking quality; therefore I'm not mourning.
In addition, TRT could have written a muuuuuch better explanation for withdrawing, they should have hired me for that. :D It would be a profound reason if they told about the change in running order, for instance.
