I doubt if they are even aware of the change in running order anyway.

Was thinking exactly of the same thing. :D
Moreover, it would have taken them only few minutes to find out who Turkish ESC fans wanted in ESC in 2011 and 2012 but they seem to be trying to be as reckless as possible.

In short, they say televoting has played a great role in Turkey’s getting higher places since 2000. And they believe that between 2003-2010 years when there was no jury, we’d been more successful. and also they add that jury’s voting is in favor of Big 5. So we withdraw, Europe!

Loool if so then they don't know what they are talking about. There were juries in 2009(the final) and 2010. In this years they finished 4th and 2nd!! Isn't' 2nd place with 50/50 good enough for them?? What do they expect? Victory every year?

Sorry TRT and Turkey with this bad attitude I will not miss you at all! Bye bye!!

That's why we should take up arms and capture the TRT headquarters. The only solution is revolution.

France - 4th
Germany - 14th
Spain - last
United Kingdom - 3rd with juries (5th overall). Turkey placed higher anyway

Two Big 5 countries in the top 10

2010

Germany - 1st (won both televote and juries so can't complain there)
Spain, UK, France - bottom 6

2011

Italy - 1st (at the end, Azerbaijan prevailed)
Germany - top 10, France mid table
UK, Spain - bottom 5

2012

Germany, Spain, Italy - top 10
France - 13th
UK - dead last

So the Big 5 aren't always favoured, and when they were, it was when they were fan favourites (i.e. presumably well-loved) like Spain 2012, France 2009

Whaaaat? Tureky withdrawing? That was unexpected!
What did happen? Economic crisis is hitting there, too?

I explained it below:

How significant that this decision has come out shortly after the budget negotiations in the parliament. The current account deficit is getting bigger and bigger so the government has begun to feel need to reduce some spendings which they see as " unnecessary " (that's why they also withdrew from the CERN project, citing the expense), scaring that they could not fool the people that our economy is magnificant anymore in case of a crisis!

They didn't say that big five was being favoured. The member mistranslated the article.

And that'd be true.

No it's not. But we should discuss that in a separate thread, if needed.

I'm still waiting for an official explanation for the so called "reason" is it the big 5, the jury voting, the running order....too many rumors out there.

So they basically admitted that Turkey benefits from televote... sorry, but that's such a bitter reason to withdraw!

This was what I also thought. They admit the televoting is unfair... and the 50/50 voting is the most fair... This will not help them at all if they really want remove the
juries. With this comment EBU are probably even more sure that the 50/50 is the right way to vote.

I explained it below:

Thanks! There is still time before the deadline. Maybe TRT can still try to find a private sponsor to pay all the expenses, like Greece is doing too.
Or they could join forces and send a greek-turkish couple. That would be even less expected! :D

The 'jury' put them in bottom-5 and even didn't want them to qualify this year. Same situation in 2011. I totally understand their reasoning and if that is what makes them withdraw I shall fully support their decision. Sweden and some other Western European countries cannot make a big fuzz about human right issues, ethnic values etc. and at the same time assert such corrupt and un-democratic rules just because they are supposed to work in their favour. It's true there is diaspora voting but this does not justify jumbling the rest of the results as well.

According to esctoday (they took their time so maybe were a bit mor thorough???)

The broadcaster’s reasons for withdrawing from next year’s event are the changes in the voting system of the contest: introduction of 50/50 jury and televoting deliberation, and the Big 5 rule, enabling Spain, Italy, UK, France and Germany to automatically qualify every year for the final. The broadcaster expresses its discontent regarding these rules and feels they are not fair.

I may agree with the big5 unfairness, but the 50/50 rule is here for a good reason and it should stay.
