Re: TURKEY 2013

Işın Karaca is Turkish Cypriot, isn't she? First points from Cyprus to Turkey since 2003? xthink

(Because I'm sure if a Turkish Cypriot participates in ESC, CyBC which is in collaboration with Turkish Cypriot channels too will promote this fact, they even promoted the fact that Nigar's husband is half Turkish Cypriot )

I'd like to see her on ESC stage for us, at least in order not to see that bloody Aynur Aydın

Hmm I don't recall Cyprus ever really giving Turkey high points in the years when it was 100% televoting. That's a bit strange considering they get diaspora votes from countries like France and Netherlands, but hardly anything from a country where they are in a sizable minority. Does the north not participate in the televote?

It happened only in 2003, Cyprus gave Turkey 8 (or 7) points. Never again! :(

I was expecting points to Dum Tek Tek, and I personally voted for both Dum Tek Tek and We Could Be The Same, but they both got 0! xcry

About sizable minority, don't you know that the Northern part of Cyprus is a de facto state and there is no CYTA network over there, so they cannot vote in ESC? xshrug

Oh I didn't know that. But that explains why Turkey doesn't get diaspora votes from Cyprus then.

Yes, and in this forum some members were shouting and screaming "let Turkish Cypriots vote" etc, but they don't understand that voting in ESC would be the last reason to solve the Cypriot dispute!

IMO, it would be awesome to have them voting too, but it's not up to me, or to CyBC to decide. xshrug

Afaik the telephone service in Northern Cyprus is provided by Turkey and therefore while they can vote, the votes from there are counted as from Turkey. This means they can vote for Cyprus, I think.

Cypriots also gave points to Düm tek tek as well as to For real. Unfortunately the results from 2010 onwards have never been released. :( However, apart from North Cyprus I thought that in the Sothern part would live a Turkish-speaking minority, too. Perhaps they are just not interested. xthink

Yes, I forgot that we gave 4 points to Turkey in 2004, but we didn't give any points to Turkey in 2009, I remember very well that I said that my money went for nothing. xshrug

The "Turkish speaking minority" living in the South are Gypsies, so I don't think they are interested at all.
