Kazakhstan is one of the few secular muslim countries in the world, and not like Egypt and others (countries that are allowed to enter) where for instance women are second class citizens and can't even walk outside the door unveiled without risking sexual assaults (sanctioned by the laws).

May I ask what that's to do with Kazakhstan's participation at the Eurovision Song Contest? since when being officially secular is a criterion to take part?

Sorry if it might go off-topic but I also have to ask for a source proving your claim that "women are second class citizens and can't even walk outside the door unveiled without risking sexual assaults (sanctioned by the laws)" in Egypt. (or any other country that is a member of the EBU)

It's pretty obvious that you're problem is sorta different here rather than defending Kazakhstan's participation in the contest (which I also do). Not been around here for a long time and I see things are still the same with this guy. Again a Kazakhstan thread, again this islamophobic member is irrelevantly bringing the issue to Muslim countries babbling about how they are so fucked up, backward and such (!). (as he also does under other Muslim-majority countries' threads from time to time).

Well, if we are to allow (or not) countries based on their human rights record and democracy levels then that's a difficult task. Firstly because we already have countries within the contest that are having a pretty lousy record (you mention Russia as an example). Then it's the everlasting issue about "definition". I'm struggling to see how Kazakhstan would be worse though than countries like Lebanon or Libya where being gay is illegal and where you can get life in prison or even death penalty (the latter I assume is for Libya).

Well, as I understand (and this has been discussed many times before as you know), these countries are in the European Broadcasting Area. I have no idea what this area represent exactly, but I guess it's a technical matter and have nothing todo with politics. I also have no idea if these rules and conditions are valid or absolute, but AFAIK it is how it's all explained (i.e. why Belarus, Israel and Morocco).

A-lister using the thread as an excuse for bringing in political propaganda in the general music threads - spot on and not the first time to say the least!

Ehm? You started it by mentioning Kazakhstan's supposed bad track record in democracy and human rights, I just answered with a very logical response to that statement. Don't come pretend you didn't start it.

Read my last response to Laleh

I won't provide you any sources, afterall it would be off-topic as you put it. Use google and common sense.

I simply answered to Laleh that pointed out Kazakhtan's democracy and human rights level as a "problem" for entering ESC, then I'd say we have countries with far worse track records that could enter, that's all.

that's why we have juries -O-

of course yes, they can be perfect in counteracting in the diaspora voting - especially with the new ranking system. Like with how certain juries destroyed Poland this year. But the juries are not always holier than thou.

Just a few examples. Obviously doesn't mean Kazakhstan would do that but the chances are they will vote very highly to Russia. Everyone does it.

+1. By the way - I actually lost the plot, what is ESC juries's task. Some of them help with neighbour/block voting (personally I don't have anything against it, but this is the other issue), and some of them support performers with poor vocals (vide Sweden 2013). So, why they still have a serious influence on contest's results? Just for sh*ts and giggles?

Don't be so mean, Kazakhstan may well give their 12 points to... Azerbaijan. Just kidding!

This is just a matter of business imo. They just want to have the power of failure or success over the countries. Of course tastes are subjective but when one finds out that those people can either favor outdated/bland americanized entries over modern/"local-flavored" entries or randomly fall for both accomplished singers and karaoke singers... There is no standard, no logic in their voting.

My friends and i were cheering for Kazakhstan though we were sure Tatarstan would win cause it won the semi.
But it was such an amazing surprise, the best song won and it wasn't only the best, it was heads above all the rest.
Now i want to see Kazakhstan in ESC even more)

Kazakhstan has a very good music scene for their genre - an ESC début would be more than welcome.

Kazakhstan 2015

So, as Australia can compete in Eurovision 2015 over-passing the EBU rules, why not this country who has a portion land in Europe (in Russia and meet some rules to compete and make eligible than than Australia..? :) Don't come with double standards.
