Maybe they will be invited after 30 years covering the contest like Australia. If they were invited now, I bet I would had read this: "why Australia had to wait so long while it took very few years for Kazakhstan?"

Too much drama and tantrum about this, playing a cryingbaby game "Oh, I'm an ex USSR, western countries hate me" xcry1 BS !

You do realize that Kazhakstan doesn't have to wait like Australia, because unlike them, according to the rules, they are as eligible to participate as much as Finland and Portugal!

No, Kazakhstan is not part of the European Broadcasting Area, neither is a member of Council of Europe.

They don't even have an EBU member of any kind. Even countries like Bangladesh and Mauritania have EBU associate members.

Australia isn't either

What is so funny? xthink
Nobody said Australia is an eligible EBU member. You better read the context. It's not a discussion about Australia being eligible as an EBU full member, but a clarification that Kazakhstan isn't either.

Australia is going to compete as a special guest, that's very clear for everyone...after 30 years broadcasting the show, which is not the case of Kazakhstan and that's why I said, maybe...just maybe KAZ will be invited when they cover ESC for that period of time and show special love for the contest...because despite what DanielLuis said, KAZ is not eligible either and that was the point of BGN

Armenia took part in 2006 when they were outside the EBA. The borders were redefined in 2007

GRE all your maps show is that the rules can be changed whenever the EBU feel like it. Look, all I'm trying to say is that if Kazakhstan got accepted to the EBU then I doubt anything would be standing in their way to enter, geographically or not.

The rule is quite clear on this. In order to be an active member of EBU, a broadcaster should fulfil at least one of the following:

1.) Being part of European Broadcasting Area
OR
2.) Their country being a member of Council of Europe.

Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia are outside EBA, but are members of Council of Europe, so they are eligible to join.
Belarus is not a member of Council of Europe, but is within EBA - so their broadcaster is also eligible. The same applies to the Arab member stations + Israel who are all within EBA. Kazakhstan is neither in EBA, nor in Council of Europe.

We all know Russia (which is officially Russian Federation) extends eastwards well beyond 40° east, in fact it extends as far as the International Date Line. At its easternmost limit you're nearly at Alaska. Nonetheless Russia's entry in the ESC represents the whole of Russia, not just the bit of Russia west of the 40° east line of longitude.

Andy from ESCKAZ told that the Kazakh local Communications Committee was reacted about the Australian joing on Eurovision 2015: Has stated that broadcaster Khabar has applied to join EBU two years ago and that included application to join Eurovision Song Contest as well. They said they submitted all the package necessary to obtain EBU membership but for 2 years their application is pending without positive or negative decision.

Also he told that EBU didn't was reject their apply of membership, but that EBU should just respond that Kazakhstan lies outside European Broadcasting Area and can not join EBU at least until it hasn't joined Council of Europe. These sort of statements means either lack of proper communication between two sides or one of sides presenting not complete information.

It's good to know they are interested at the very least. Hopefully they'll participate next year. Another Turkic country would be great!

That's sad because time is wasted: the EBU should at least reject or welcome them. How come they let them wait for an answer?

Surely at this point the EBU dragging their feet is a sign that they DON'T want Kazakhstan in....right :?

It becomes even more glaring after the Australia participation. And chances are they never want Kazakhstan in but for some stupid reason don't want to just come out and say their reasons xdoh

I think every year, from now on, a country will be guest at Eurovision, like Australia this year.
So, probably next year it will be Kazakstan.

Well if you ask me (and your not ) EBU really opened up a can of worms with this one year guest thing for Australia

I don't really have an opinion on it but it made things feel really messy and awkward
