Me: Hey, mind if I put some music on?

Mum: Sure! *mutes news man in preparation for music*

Me: *plays :it:* *plays :sl:*

Mum: Hey, mind if I turn the news back on?

Me, externally: Sure!

And there we were thinking it was only the British who were too polite to say anything in these situations :p

For the 13th year in a row, it was time for our annual Eurovision-listening with my family. Me, my little brother and my mom listen through all the songs and scored them from 0-10 points. They think that this year was an okay year as a whole, with some really good songs but also some really bad ones as well. Pretty weird as well, where some songs (Iceland and Portugal to name just two of these) really gave out strong reactions, everything from disgust to complete confusion. Anyway, here is the full ranking of this year (my points in yellow, brother in green, mom in pink):

OMFG, I knew The Netherlands would be loved in 2014, when the fans didn't but

Switzerland won his family poll last year, so yeah, don't get too carried away with that though. Although it might be a possibility. xshrug

I've got a problem. Yesterday I decided to show my mother Serhat's song and she fancies the pants off him, and is now obsessed, and I hate her. She was supposed to just say "what a wonderful song" and go about her day, not start fantasizing about him in front of me. I saw him first back in 2016. There may be enough Hat for all but I'm a very territorial person, and only like sharing on my own terms. I might need counselling after this.

In other news my Dad described Serhat as "San Marino's very own Leonard Cohen".

I had to wait until today (because it's my birthday) to ask my mum to listen to the recap of songs, because she's not a fan at all of Eurovision and would only make the 'sacrifice' in a special day

Well, her favourite is :ru: , followed by :ee: (she likes both the song and singer XDD) and :az:. She also enjoyed , :dk:, :hr:, :rs: and :am:

She was not impressed by the other songs. She didn't like :cz:, and she was speechless with :is: (not in a good sense).

That's all I can say, she wasn't very expressive

My niece (12 years old) was listening to most of the songs about two weeks ago. She liked the most: Switzerland, France, Malta, Russia, Belarus, Romania and Italy.
She hated Australia, Portugal, Poland, North Macedonia and Sweden. She wasn't a big fan of Norway either (too confusing she said). Iceland was also on her hate list. But she told me she likes it now a lot.

I asked her what she thinks about The Netherlands. She said it is okay, but nothing special to her.

I have a friend who watches the final but isn't particularly invested in the whole thing and they like Switzerland and Malta.

boyfriend really likes :se: , was singing  under the shower and likes :is: cause I was praising them and he sees all the satiric stuff in it and think it's genius.

I put a recap one day and he didn't really clicked with one song in particular, told me that even if the genres are different, the "level" of music is kinda average and that makes it really difficult for him to sort one after 41 songs. But as :is: my n°1, he specifically told me that it stands out a lot, that was one of the few he could actually remember cause the sound was definitely different but maybe he listened to it carefully cause he knew I liked it.

I should ask my mom cause she seemed good at guessing eurovision she had the winner 3 year in a row as Israel 2018, Portugal 2017 and Ukraine 2016 were her absolute favorites.

I double post cause My mom just visited me and I put the ESC recap + Iceland as it's my number one this year. She's 59 FYI.

So I started with Iceland as I wanted to see her face : "oh god I hate this way of singing. What is this ?" chorus kicks in : "but I love the chorus it's very good and catchy, that's surprising", end of the song eurovision key "actually it's not that bad, the chorus made me forgot the horrible singing and it was easier to swallow during the second verse and that didn't bother me at all at the end when they sing together, I think I like it now but it's surprising"

during the recap she didn't say anything actually she just felt there were too much songs but three songs got her to say something :

:pt: I HATE this, what is this, circus thingy ?
 this is the best from all the snippets, it's catchy and memorable I can still remember the song from all the bunch, could win
(Her favorites were Sweden in 2015, Ukraine in 2016, Portugal in 2017 and Israel in 2018)
:is: this is really outstanding amongst all the 41 snippets, this will do well I think if people like me are disturbed at first but they give it a chance past the chorus.

So she likes Iceland and Norway (but remember she didn't listen to the songs entirely but Iceland)

I didn’t need to ask my 6 year old what he likes best. Of all Eurovision songs I played the last weeks (almost all) he sings along just ONE every day... and he doesn’t even know the language...

„Sooolee sooolee... fourty fourty...“

Who can guess which his favourite is? :D

My mum listened (her eyes were on her phone) to the songs this semi-final and she only liked :gr: and :ee: . I was surprised that she was completely indifferent to :pl: and :pt: since she used to work with ethnic music and she loved both "Amar pelos dois" and "1944".

My husband absolutely loves Sweden, Norway and Italy.

He has his money on Italy winning. He thinks that it's the best crafted song of the year and best performer of the year.

However, he loves Moldova for all the wrong reasons. He loves belting it out, copying Anna's fierce facial expressions and poking fun at the cheesy music video.

My husband fell asleep next to me on the couch yesterday a few minutes before announcing the results started and I went to bed after, scrolling on my mobile a bit when suddenly the door of our bedroom was opened softly and he put his head in and the only thing he asked with a sleepy voice was: „Did Belgium qualify?“
And I raised my rainbow and said „No?“
And he said: „Why?! It was the best song of the evening!“
I was laughing so hard and reassured we were talking about the same Belgium but obviously we did! :D

For the first time I was watching a show without my family and in my university town instead, watching it with a friend and roommate.
But of course my parents and sister were watching at home and also were sending me a lot of messages during the show. My father sent me a message saying: "Iceland is sooo great, my second favourite after Spirit in the Skys" and to me that was the funniest and cutest thing ever :D (absolutely same though)
