Also can I just say - thank you BBC for letting us get some hype builds with previews and snippets and little social teases - this is what we need instead of months of nothing and then suddenly "song tomorrow".

It makes me hopeful that Olly is fully invested in a big PR tour to promote him and his song in the months to come xlove

Is there any point in a PR tour? Maybe people will just get bored of the song.
I was looking at my 2023 fave, Alika (Estonia, "Bridges"), and she did a PR tour of Poland, Israel , Spain, Netherlands and UK, and guess what, the Netherlands televote gave her 5pts, the rest nada. 3/4 of the televotes she got were from countries she didn't promote her song in. Similarly the juries of the countries she visited gave her 8, 7, 6, 5 and 0 (not in that order) but were they influenced by the fact she had visited their country? The figures say not, as 9 juries of countries she *didn't* visit gave her 8 points or more! My conclusion is that promoting your song to people leads to lower votes.

However, as the Brits say, "It's early days." You call finishing sixth in ESC 2002 a flop? I think that it is a respectable finish. Also, I think that "Dizzy" and "Gimme" are not that similar.
I agree, anything top 10 is good when you consider that the no. of entrants is not the 26 in the final but 35-40 when you take the semis into account — unless you are aiming for last place (which Germany seem to believe they own) in which case coming 6th is a disaster. That was probably our main failing last year, coming second to last is a failure not only to win but to lose too.

I wait for my final judgement when the full song is out. We got a bit of the first chorus, that's really nothing. But I liked what I was hearing, it's really catchy. I didn't hear it many times but I can already sing along.

Let's keep in mind that he might even sing another version for the live show, like Sam did. And Olly is a performer with a lot of stage presence, he will elevate it live. Most of his songs generally tend to be much more interesting when he performs them live. The studio version of "Sweet Talker" for example is not nearly as interesting as his live performance on Strictly come Dancing.

The instrumental is soooo good, but the song sounds extremely difficult to sing and stage.

Thank god for pre recorded backing vocals and Olly having major experience in staging songs similar to this on arena and festival stages!

Pre recorded backing vocals did not save Mae Muller thooo but you might be right that Olly is a more experienced performer

The issue with Mae was they didn’t use them to anywhere near the same extent as similar entries did who scored higher! I’m hoping the BBC have learnt their lesson there.

Our HoD seems to be doing a little NF tour. First he's in the Benidormfest jury, and now hes apparently at Sanremo. Then Olly ofc is our jury spokesperson in UMK. Not to dig too deep, but... 👀

I'm waiting for Lee to take it quite literally and call our selection show Nottingham or Blackpool and host it there
