If if all goes badly and TaP don’t decide to part ways then good news! Andrew Cartmell (HOD) and Lee Smithurst (AHOD) will hopefully return to the top of the UK delegation to fix it again in 2024. They are both missing this year to run the contest.
We can but hope but our reputation is probably going to be in bits again :(

Sensing it’s not a popular opinion at the moment but I’m going to need to hear Rina turned them down or wasn’t available because I need to hear some justification for this car crash of a decision.
Absolutely. I know it would never happen, for many reasons, but especially when a selection is internal and the country gets no say in who represents them, it really would be good to get better transparency on what criteria are being used to select entries.

Again, I know I'm jumping the gun here, but based on the minute we've heard - at what point has someone identified 'I Wrote a Song' as being a winner, or Eurovision competitive? TaP would have been inundated with options this year, so why this? It just doesn't click for me that this could have been regarded by anyone as a smart choice if the goal was to win on home soil.

But who knows, maybe the song goes somewhere I'm not expecting it to and it blows me out of the water, and TaP do know what they're doing after all. It's just not a particularly convincing 60 seconds...

I think regardless of the UK's result this year, there will still be lots of credible artists that will want to try to represent the UK next year - at least we have a proven recent record that a UK entry can do well. And if the UK doesn't do very well, I doubt the BBC will abandon TaP immediately, given a) Sam's success, and b) not having any better alternatives.

We can but hope but our reputation is probably going to be in bits again :(
It won't be 'in bits' after one bad result. The argument that the UK can never do well in the contest is dead, and will stay that way for a few years at least.

I’m actually wondering how long it’ll take for a statement or one of ‘Team UK’ to call for unity following the backlash this is already getting on social media… definitely not what they wanted

To go from something as special as Space Man last year to a generic radio bop this year though… people are justifiably disappointed and even frustrated. One step forward, two back it would seem.

“Not the worst thing ever recorded”, “good enough”, “not that bad” should tell you all you need to know about our chances this year.

Seems to be the unpopular opinion but I actually really like the snippet. I’m not saying it’s “not the worst thing ever recorded” i’m saying that people are acting LIKE it is. People are throwing their toys out the pram like children, Mae Muller is a human being don’t forget.

Are we really acting like Space Man was a great song? I liked it but as a song it’s fairly simple and the lyrics are mediocre. There were much better songs last year than Space Man. But what sold it was Sam himself and how he was able to elevate that song through the staging and performance. He is a showman and performed the hell out of it.

So let’s see what Mae can do. For one let’s actually hear the full song and then let’s see how they’re going to bring it to life. I hope they have some kind of One Show performance planned like last year to give Mae a chance to show off her personality.

I don’t condone people insulting Mae but people are entitled to feel disappointed, frustrated and perplexed in equal measure.

Yes exactly Space Man got a very lukewarm reception when it first came out but was elevated by Sam and his performance. Let’s not act like Space Man was the holy grail of music

"Space Man" is a good song, it reminded people of Elton John and Freddie Mercury in places, the reason Sam Ryder was able to sell it was because he has talent. What's Mae Muller got?

I'll reserve the right to judge this but for my personal taste Rina with "Holy" would've been my genuine #1 of the year and I feel would've had a very good chance of success at Eurovision. Perhaps Rina was never even in contention but she's the only act who had a SIGNIFICANT amount of evidence (or shall we say, coincidences) stacking up in her favour this year.

I'm just not convinced that IWAS is going to be anywhere near as competitive. Happy to be proven wrong, of course.

And to those who ask why UK fans aren't satisfied with some of the options rumoured, we've finally had a taste of the good life for once. Forgive us if we're not willing to rush back to bland entries in the bottom 5 in a hurry and want to stay competitive year on year.

Yes a good song. Not a great song.

Well let’s see what Mae Muller has. We haven’t even heard the full song yet let alone any idea of staging. So let’s give her the chance to show us what she can do.

And let’s bear in mind that a music video is not a good indication of staging for Eurovision. There were some people last year that genuinely believed Sam would be in a flying armchair in Turin.
