As à spanish, you shouldn't say this, lol. Btw it's off-topic but has something been announced for Your country for next year ?

I'm not Spanish, I'm british. I just have the Spain flag for my avatar. My location says UK, but I guess an easy mistake.

I think there was some news that wont be OT because of dates, but other than that idk.

Ah, ok. Concerning Spain, I heard the same news at the beginning of the year but then I aslo heard that it was fake and OT would really come back next year so I really don't know. But when do a channel decides to not make aTV show because of dates ?

Seeing Suntroke Project's overall 3rd place in 2017, then Norway's first place in the televote in 2019...is there a growing hunger for the return of a "sillier"/more lighthearted Eurovision? For example, if UK 2015 (Electro Velvet) was sent, like, in 2019, would it have actually placed top 15 or better (especially if Norway 2019 wasn't in the mix)? Now, I wasn't a fan of UK 2015, but I'm just thinking out loud.

Under this idea, a less polished UK 2015-type entry could see a random top 12 placing -- which is almost the literal definition of failing upwards. It won't send a good signal to the BBC, however, who would use that as a pass to just send whatever to ESC moving forward.

There are possibilities, but it's a reflection of what the public likes. Putting aside the quality aspects blablabla, it's normal if the public searches for something the can have fun and dance to. This is time when juries would decide whether the entry is sensible enough to win (Toy, Satellite) or just too ridiculous or cheap or whatever accrding to them (Spirits in the Sky, Yodel It, It's My Life).

I've been wondering what masterpiece the BBC will send in 2020.

Surely they cannot keep the same format for the NF... Will they go back to the 2018 format claiming the new format was to blame?

I think the whole NF needs a complete revamp but I very much doubt anything will change - I know the BBC have no idea what it takes to succeed in Eurovision this century

Something has to change for next year, who would carry on with something that leads into a failure? The previous 2 times the UK came last, the BBC had a big format change and had both following years on the top half of the scoreboard! Surely 2019 was the end of You Decide, has to be!

We can live in hope but I think the most likely option is the 2018 format or an internal selection with something similar to electro velvet

Oh yes! Adele singing "Bigger Than Us part II" I'm thrilled.

SuRie was Adele++, but the song was a let-down. I've seen her perform "Rhythm Inside" live and add her sensual touch to it: it was FAN-TAS-TIC. Top 5 lock and much better than the original version imo.

The UK has had a bunch of decent-to-great vocalists this decade, but there is only so much one can do with a nondescript song. The BBC's sketchy taste in music is more concerning to me than the unknown names appearing in their NF.

If Adele were taking part, it's very likely her entry would sound more like "Hello" than "Rolling In The Deep" anyway: I'm not sure AshleyWright and I would be here for that. We need something upbeat from the Brits for once!!!

The UK doesn't need Adele.. just send something unique and modern.. just for once, pls.
Something like Molly but more instant, interesting + better staging and I think that a Top 10 placing is on lock.

This decade was utterly horrendous for the UK. NO single Top 10 entry and I can totally understand why. You will not enter the left scoreboard by sending basic entries with non-event performances again and again.

I can totally agree with what Mainshow wrote.

The UK is the country in the competition that makes me most angry!! They have such a rich and diverse music industry with many great artists, but when it comes to Eurovision they just send uncharismatic nobodys with boring tracks which most famous artists wouldn´t even put them as fillers on their album!! And after the disastrous outcome they just complain and cry about the "evil" Europeans who hate the UK because of politics and Brexit and bla bla bla!! Bullshit!!

Europe doesn´t reject the British entries because of politics, they simply notice when a country doesn´t try to do well, but this is something that the BBC doesn´t unterstand, and as long as this is the case I don´t see the UK doing better in the contest!!

the UK is in utter denial about themselves and about Eurovision. Like, the first thing that would need to happen is that the BBC would have to start taking ESC seriously as a competition. The second is recognizing they can do well. The third is ensuring it happens.

The BBC has failed to take all of these steps in recent years. Even in the earlier years of the decade, the BBC recruited famous names (Blue, Dinklehump, Bonnie Tyler) in the hopes of securing a better result - a sign of both panic and ignorance. The only positive thing I can think of is that once their entry is selected, the UK delegation always does their best to make as appealing as possible. Joe&Jake, Electro Velvet and SuRie were charming to me.

However, the results stay out because Europe is pissed about the brexitTHE BBC HAS A FUCKING LACKADAISICAL ATTITUDE TOWARDS EUROVISION, picking songs that are steaming piles of rubbish, and putting forward artists the GBP will always select because they appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Perhaps a new broadcaster is in order. Bring on Wales already.

But is it?

I hope for an internal selection though, but a new (i mean NEW) you decide format is also welcomed.

There’s lots of X Factor singers signed to BMG and my guess is that realistically we’re probably best to hope for one of them (Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Diana Vickers etc) if we’re to actually get an established name. I still feel though that the only way we’re going to get a solid, well respected artist is if we scrap the NF and go the internal route.

This BMG news does seem promising and a push in a positive direction, but I’m going to remain skeptical until any concrete details are thrown our way. I still don’t trust anyone but I guess that comes with being a British Eurovision fan. I’m very much willing to be surprised though. This could very well be what we need.

Also, my ultimate queen, Marianne Faithfull, is signed to BMG. Allow me to dream for one moment of the impossible.

This is definitely a step in the right direction. Seems like finishing last awoke the kraken, finally. No guarantee I would like the entry, but the chances for second-hand embarrassment at the hands of the UK went down by a lot with that move. Progress! ^_^
