26 pages in, and still zero clue on when the announcement is confirmed to take place (save for suspect Twitter accounts posting rumours). BBC just doesn't get it at all.

I see the Simon Cowell has announced that X Factor is taking a break this year (much needed IMHO). So there would definitely be room for a contest starting at the tail end of the year into the start of 2021 to select an entrant/song for Eurovision. Not that I'd necessarily want Cowell involved (and his contract with ITV would prevent him from being too heavily involved in a BBC production I'd imagine).

I'll say this again... We need a name that is known, even if not widespread so that they can bring in more interest and start to change perceptions. I'm sick of everyone laughing at the contest in this country and being all "LOLZ HOW FUNNEH LOOK AT THE SILLY NEIGHBOURS VOTING FOR EACH OTHER"

On another note, how many times will we hear Brexit mentioned in the run-up to and during the contest to explain away our shocking performance? It'll never be the sub-standard song or performer...

Erm Cowell's contract hasn't stopped him from working with the BBC on the The Greatest Dancer which was created and is produced by his company SyCo and is based on the Rising Star format that select Israel's entries.

However, having said that I wouldn't want Cowell anywhere near Eurovision and if the UK were to select via a 'talent' show in the future, I'd rather have something similar to the BBC's old Fame Academy format, which tried nurtured new singer-songwriters to create their own music.

I remember an interview with Simon Cowell a few years ago where he was asked if he ever would get involved in selecting the UK's act and his response was that he had no intention in doing so, he saw it as a poison chalice and he felt that it didn't matter who'd he'd pick it would never win due to politics.

Whether or not his opinion has changed since then the truth is that if the fans really want the UK's entries to not sound like X Factor winner's singles from the early-mid 2010's then it would be best to not get the guy who ultimately pioneered that sound involved in the selection process.

Not to turn this into a discussion and community beat down of Cowell but the man has proven that he is woefully out of touch when it comes to the landscape of music and television. From the whole announcement of his X Factor: The Bands show where he infamously said "You've all heard of K-Pop, well now its time to hear UK-Pop" to the rapidly haemorrhaging viewing figures for the show in general where the answer is not "Lets diversify the types of acts on the show" but is "Lets boost the viewing figures with a SUPER MEGA 6 CHAIR DOUBLE ELIMINATION CHALLENGE".

If you want a clear example of what kind of act we'd get then just look at the UK's act last year; a fine singer with a reality TV friendly backstory. A backstory that does not translate at all to a show like Eurovision where to the vast, vast vaaast majority of people watching it are seeing the act for the first and only time when they are singing. You take the backstory away from them, then they are just an average pop singer with an average song with average staging.

Sure, a more well known name might help but then you run into the problem that A) Few are willing to put their name forwards because of all the "We'll never win due to politics" stuff and B) When well known (or at least experienced) names have tried or been approached to do it they've been told they can't do a song they've written and that t hey have to do a song the BBC provides.

And as we all know all too well the BBC has this weird idea in their heads that the only way to win is with a song "written specially for Eurovision", one written by one of the three writers that wrote the winning entry 5 to 10 years ago.

And with that in mind it really doesn't matter what the selection process is because the BBC thinks they know best when it comes to Eurovision when they clearly don't which makes me worry that they might have interfered with the selection process this time around or that if this year's act doesn't do well (or well enough) in their eyes then they'll sack BMG off and next year well be back to a National Final with contestants singing like its the X Factor Final 2012.

Rant over.

I dunno, if it is this week I feel that Monday will be the announcement of the announcement with the reveal happening on Friday; They could reveal it on The One Show, Micheal Ball is a guest presenter that day, so they could do a neat little V.T. where they look back at history in the competition, mention about him coming second then do the reveal shortly afterwards.

Something along the lines of "Well you might not know it to look at our results but we used to be rather good at that there Eurovision, we have come second more times than any other nation, including with yours truely [Clip of Ball performing] and have hosted it more times than any other nation, even when a certain Swedish pop group entered it, I wonder what happened to them? This year the BBC are teaming up with record label BMG to try and bring Eurovision home, we caught up with INSERTBMGREPRASENTIVE'SNAMEHERE to find out what they have been looking for"

Where on Earth did you see that?

ngl. I'm a fan of Skillet. They have some great tracks but I really don't believe the BBC are importing an American rock band.

Graham Norton Show is always filmed on the Thursday, before its airs the following evening.

I just want to have it revealed so we can hear it.

I have contacts with SRO (audience ticketing) so if it does happen which I highly doubt on Thursday evening I'm sure they will let me know. I also know a few people going to the recording SRO ticketing.
