I don't think the BBC will ever let it go. No matter how bad they try and how terrible they portray the image of the contest, Eurovision always brings them decent ratings. But I would love to see what ITV, and especially Channel 4, would do if they were the ones taking part.

Yes. It's always a ratings success, not so much on some years but it still does very well for the BBC. Eurovision, despite the bad perception here is a yearly tradition and the ultimate guilty pleasure everyone loves to hate but lowkey loves and watches. The BBC know full well if they stopped then ITV, their main competitor, would snatch it up and then all them hot ratings would go over to ITV. The only way they'd ever give it up is if the ratings were horrendously bad, like less 1,000,000 or if there was a bidding process for the rights to Eurovision then ITV would probably outbid them like they did with The Voice etc. I always stand by the opinion that Eurovision would be in better hands with ITV. We can't truly know for sure, but ITV is richer, better connected and has a younger and more diverse demographic compared to the BBC. It's also worth mentioning ITV covered our brief stint in JESC, and while the BBC got us last place with 0 points in ESC, in the same year ITV got us 3rd place with 118 points (then followed by a 2nd place).

Not wanting to dance anymore, but I must dance
I don't see what the Beeb is playing at, as if they've never sent entries that some might react with a cringy/beffudled impression.

It's also ironic, because of the dozen performers they featured:

-3 didn't qualify (Lithuania 2010, Montenegro 2013, Latvia 2014)
-1 finished bottom right (Finland 2018)

Meanwhile, EIGHT of them finished on the left side/top right:

-Romania 2011 (12th)
-Russia 2012 (2nd)
-Lithuania 2012 (14th)
-Romania 2013 (13th)
-Ukraine 2014 (6th)
-Romania 2014 (12th)
-Italy 2017 (6th)
-Azerbaijan 2017 (14th)

I guess when they said "makes you question everything about Eurovision" it's because in the last decade they've managed only two good results?

Not to mention some of them aren't even troll songs, they just took out the metaphor for the song used in the staging and made a joke from it while completely ignoring why it was even there.

A Bridge Too Far
I see the UK/BBC perception of Eurovision still hasn't improved... "Skeletons" for example is a good, genuinely creative track, but sure, let's focus on the one element of the staging we can laugh at xfacepalm
Given that I'm Dutch I know quite well what is going on here. We used to have the same attitude to Eurovision. It had supposedly been debased by the inclusion of all the Eastern European countries who had no taste (argument was unfair, but had merits). Televoting was a complete and utter mess (that was certainly true) and our own entries were usually seen as horribly underappreciated (which was sometimes true, but only sometimes). Well, they fixed the televoting as well as they could and Eastern Europe is now properly Westernized as far as music goes. All that has to be done then is reach the conclusion that your own entries just aren't good enough. This can't be done if no one watches, if no one sees how things were changing.

All it took for us was Anouk with Birds. The trick here was not that we suddenly had a good entry per se, but that people started watching again. They would quickly find that Eurovision had been improving immensely over the last years and coverage now was not so much about complaining and poking fun of stuff, but there was actual analysis of the songs and the staging and how much of a chance certain entrants would have. Viewers came to understand that we simply had to get better at it, find better songs, absolutely nail the staging, stuff like that. You would think that the British can do this as well, but the horrible fact is that it has been framed as some sort of comedic sideshow for decades over there and there's no end in sight. Doing that is fine, but it just doesn't help you. There's still a radio show over here as well that covers Eurovision, that one is 100% about the comedy of it and just taking the piss, but that's now the minority opinion. The BBC is by now more than a decade behind the times. Satellite was 10 years ago, that was a solid pop song that charted all over Europe.

Fingers crossed we find some form details out this coming week on Artist and song choice. I have feeling it will come on the 14/15th.

Well the current rumour/prediction was that it would be announced around this time with some suggesting that it would be the 14th or the 15th.

The question however I suppose is "How will it revealed?", there was some suggestion that it would be revealed on the Graham Norton show but there is nothing about the listing for Friday's show that suggests that there would be a reveal (unless its being kept under wraps and we'll find out closer to the time) and the show after that is just a clip show.

I'd be honestly rather shocked if it was just revealed in a press release given this is a collaboration with a major record label and I'd imagine they'd want more of a song and dance (no pun intended) to be made of the reveal than just a quick message on the BBC New's website's Entertainment page.

So if it is this week then goodness knows how it will be revealed. Lets just hope that however it is revealed the act and song is worth all the head bending and rumours that have been floating around it these past few weeks.

Graham Norton Show is always filmed on the Thursday, before its airs the following evening.

I just want to have it revealed so we can hear it.
