keep that in mind when you read this.

Eurovision UK: Rylan Clark - let me do Eurovision! -

I know hes been mentioned before this is what hes said today. Omg please don't let it be him. BBC i actually beg you, don't do it. Why do i feel it will be him?

The BBC aren't as stupid as that. Say what you like about Bonnie and the Hump, but the general public treated them with warm, somewhat ironic, affection. They played an excellent promotional role for the show. Rylan won't do any of that. He'll turn off as many viewers as he attracts.

If they want to choose someone famous, they won't choose Rylan Clark. He is only famous there, I assume. No one has ever heard of him unless they follow the British X Factor...

I would have thought if they want talent rejects they'd pick from their own show not ITV's. As others have said attention seeking as usual.

As always, the United kingdom thread is deep in their ten month long speculation as to who their representant might be, enlarging on endless mysterious names.
Comes march and boo, everything is blown to pieces, we enter the twilight zone and some ghost comes along

Just think about it at this point last year the entry was already chosen and we didn't know!!!

I remember when they hinted it was a huge female singer from the past a lot of people thought it was Bonnie but then Petula Clark had a new album out and was everywhere promoting. It almost became consensus on the internet it was Petula before the Bonnie train picked up steam again

Lol they've most probably quickly slung together a quick list of names of people who could potentially represent us within the next decade. so our fate for the next decade has been sealed.

2009 solo female
2010 solo male
2011 male group
2012 solo male
2013 solo female
2014 ??????

So start thinking about pop groups big ten years ago people it will save you ALOT of heartache!! xlol

How about Mutya Keisha Siobhan (or whatever they call themselves ) 2014!!!
Didn't they just flop and get dropped? It would be perfect for them but I get the feeling they would laugh at the very suggestion so we'll probably have Atomic Kitten (remember when they were rumored last year!!)

Well following the pattern, it should be a female group. To complete the whole ensemble, then a solo female in 2015. A few pages back, someone suggested The Saturdays, as they released a song as part of an album after the October song date. The song was also 3 minutes long.

Also apart from that, The Saturdays have had only one of their songs chart in European countries. (What About us, which charted highest at 44 in Germany, Apart from UK and Ireland) The only other country they do well in apart from the UK is Ireland but then our music industry is intertwined there and what charts here will usually chart there. The Saturdays may want to use eurovision as a platform to properly break into Europe. I will also point out a Swede was involved in writing that song.

However! despite that i don't see them doing it anytime soon. Hell would freeze over first

It would be nice to see the Saturdays take part but would Una want to represent another country?

I doubt the saturdays would have a very good result. I think it's harder now for a song of this genre to do well. But who knows if both the song and the performance are great, good things could happen :D

Have The Saturdays ever truly caught on? The vibe I get is they have a small dedicated base but have not connected with the general public yet they act like their bigger then they really are.

I mean they came on the scene right when Girls Aloud were heading towards a break and Sugababes were falling apart so naturally people thought they would be the next big girl band but it feels like it never happened for them. Even when they were girl band #1 (by default really) they were struggling to sell. And now they clearly have been replaced by Little Mix.

Honestly they are the perfect ESC candidate but judging from "hell would freeze over first" comments I suppose they still have the belief that their too big for ESC since their on the charts even if the sales or chart positions aren't that impressive.

If you look on the The Saturdays Discography page, they actually chart very will within the UK and Ireland. Out of 16 singles, they have been in the top 10 13 times and 1# once. and they have been top 10 for all 16 in Scotland alone. Its just Europe they don't chart in, so ESC would be ideal to help them (if the song was good enough to win and was received well) the problem with their selection possibility is that the BBC on the past two years selected acts that "Europe love" and are super popular. Eastern Europe were suppose to be head over heals for Englebert and Germany and France loving Bonnie. May well that BBC will try something different after two failures with that idea.

It could really end up with a 2011 scenario with good positioning from the televotes, but being decimated by the juries.

Yet, I couldn't name a single song of theirs. The only one I know is Up, but I have to google it to find out what it was called.

They may be good at getting their music in the charts, but getting their music into the wider public consciousness is a harder task.

It's hard for any singer, and i guess you have to be a fan to know most of the singles. I only know a few. But as ive said, Eurovision could work for them to help create that bigger image, and put them back into that public eye.

The Saturdays are great vocalists. I can't get enough of this cover of Aloe Blacc

But their music is really crappy...
It's quite noticeable that all the greatest artists of brit-pop are famous and work well in France... here, Birdy is a goddess, Amy Winehouse was xbow, and Duffy, and now it's Ed Sheeran xbow, and Franz Ferdinand xbow, and Arctic Monkeys xbow, and Jessie J xbow, and James Blunt xbow, and John Newman, Ellie Goulding, James Arthur and everyone... And we even have Alex Hepburn xbow who has become huge in France while she's unknown in Britain

The Saturdays never broke through here and are completely unknown... It's quite similar as the Sugababes who were known in all Europe but in France, except for Too lost in you, because it was the soundtrak of Love actually...

Hey, Alex Hepburn must be a great choice. She's great, she's huge in France and she charted in lot of continental countries and is unknown at home...

If the 2009 national final did so well ratings wise why didn't they continue it? I guess since the people involved the first time (and by luck timing from the way you put it) weren't going to do it a second year they didn't bother to get anyone else. Seems really stupid to keep putting on all these new flop shows just to last 1-2 years when they could have a cheap ESC national final to fill it and get the same or better ratings. I mean it could also help raise the ratings for ESC itself too, a win/win situation xshrug

Sounds like The Voice is still flopping from the way your putting it. How much money can they keep putting into it and excuse the poor ratings? I think the UK is the only country where The Voice is a flop cause everywhere else from what I can see it appears to be a big hit.

The Voice is not a flop, it's series 2 average was 7.45 million. But yeah, we need a national final or an unknown but that isn't gonna happen :(
