Yeah that's a good point actually - when was the last time we sent something that wasn't pop? I definitely think an internal selection is a good thing for next year again, the UK just can't be trusted to choose something eurovision worthy imo lol

Is it likely that there will be an internal selection again? Who actually chooses the act for the BBC when it is an internal choice?

I'm just reading the twitter feed from last night and it's actually surprisingly positive. Most people seem happy we got so many points which is good, only a few "block voting" moans from the likes of richard madely haha! (from richard and judy lol). Phillip schofield also is as bad as ever, he retweeted someone who said "so will Borat be presenting next year?" Not funny in the slightest and I can't believe he can get away with endorsing that kind of comment!!

@danuk I'm not sure how likely it is, probably not too likely because the BBC will struggle to convince anyone already known but we shall see. I assume it's the same team of people who deal with eurovision in the UK every year!

Yer I thought the same tbh. Think it will be hard to convince a known artist.

Just a quickie... What good eurovision accounts should I follow? Ideally ones which will contain latest news on UK (later in the year etc). Sorry, but only just joined twitter :)

Good! Nice to see that people haven't resorted to that tired old excuse. Part of my slight disappointment in 11th was the fact that many people would probably think that if Blue can't even manage Top 10 we should just withdraw and not bother with it. The viewing figures are incredibly encouraging however and I hope that this will be paving the way to a better song next year :)

I wish the same could be said about some members of this forum!

This is an interesting point. I feel that if there was going to be this big backlash, it would have inevitably happened last year with our charmless performer and ridiculous song and staging; but there wasn't ever any real question about pulling out on the back of it. I don't see this happening this year either and indications so far seems to be that there won't be. Overall we have to remember that placings are doggedly inconsistent - 10th one year, 21st another, 5th....so on - and this is at least an improvement from last year. I would venture that the worst of the 'slump' for the UK is over, but real work still has to be done on crafting credible entries.

This has to start at a bottom-down, national level, rather than at the contest itself. I think the closed selection, 'big name but no song just yet' strategy of this-year has failed in its remit (though I stress that the placing of 11th isn't bad in such a strong contest as this year), and there needs to be a complete overhaul. I won't reiterate my proposals because most on the forum know what I feel about this subject already.

This was by far the worst live singing of the night (actually the whole performance was awful).
Guys was very arrogant and conceited and they was convicted that Blue is winner, we are the best blah blah blah.

I agree for France, but fact is that Lee fail with his singing on the start, and that background was totally fault.

The UK just need to find their Lena or Alexander Rybak. Europe wants to hear something modern, exciting and fresh. Not boyband pop they've been hearing every year...
I'm going to go out on a limb here - the UK has one of the best music scenes in the world. And there's so many types of music popular in the UK - metal, indie, folk-rock, country, classical. Why must you constrict yourself to middle of the road pop?

It's the BBC. We're never given a good choice, or a choice at all! :p

I know some people think we should stick to internal selections, but I think we should do exactly the opposite. I think the BBC should allow people to apply with their own songs and submit them online. Songs which generate interest could go up for a public vote. We have so many good artists in this country, both big names and people writing their own music playing in local venues. Rather than letting the BBC choose, or letting the public decide between 6 'Cheesy Eurovision' acts, let's create a wider pool of acts. If we enter a bad act, it's our own fault, and we can't blame anyone else. If anything, it won't leave us so disgruntled this time next year :D

Im not sure what is the best way forward tbh. I think its a case of see what people (known or unknown) want to represent....and go from there!

I agree completely. You know what would be awesome? A Melodifestavalien/X Factor style contest. But knowing the BBC that will NEVER happen.
