I am sorry people but the result is totally justified by the performance.

I suggest, if UK really wants to win the contest that bad, to split and form the ex-UK block. It's a joke, of course!

Yer I am pleased with the result. But as it was said, the British press will just do their usual moaning about how we won't win the contest, and everyone will continue to take it as a joke.

Blue should be pleased to have improved on previous UK entries and to finish with 100 points is good!

But due to the press, it'll be hard to get a decent song, songwriter and singer in 2012.

I've been wanting the UK to split up in the competition for years. I don't think we should have to be joined together, we are separate countries. Of course, the BBC airs for the entire UK, so there's no chance of us being split up. That, and we'd all be paying for each other's entries, so it's not a good idea from a financial perspective either.

But yes, last night was a bad night for the reputation of Eurovision in the UK. I have to say though, the result was probably fair. It was not a worthy winner at the end of the day, and 100 points is good. We won't be sending a credible artist any time soon though because of this.

The United Kingdom has given everything - famous composer, massive ballad, famous artist, great pop song - and we're still not getting anywhere. When some people say 'oh United Kingdom doesnt take it seriously enough', what do they expect when you try your best and have regional blocs across Europe voting for friends rather than music xshrug. I've never said this before but I cant see the United Kingdom ever winning Eurovision again, there's got to be a massive change in the voting system - not just adding Juries as was done 2 years ago but something very different. Hopefully the EBU will see that the results this year mean that such a change is necessary.

We're making progress but it's not enough. If we're going to win then we have to give Europe something bloody good to get their votes. Something that wouldn't be out of place at the top of the charts. There's still a long way to go and the media can help things. If they really get behind the people performing for the UK and play our entry on radio/TV then more people will want to represent us.

Good news for Eurovision's reputation!

Digital Spy said:
This year's Eurovision Song Contest has become the most watched since 1999, early viewing figures indicate.

Featuring Blue and Jedward as the UK and Ireland entries, the event - eventually won by Azerbaijan - pulled in a colossal 9.54m (40.4%) between 8pm and 12am, peaking with 12.7m (62%) at 11pm.

This is in stark contrast to last year's lowest ever UK audience of 5.5m.

Fantastic  Let's hope they can keep this interest up next year!

I also noticed that blue seemed to have technical problem with their microphone. It look like their micro were ; how to say, a bit " mute " . I notice France had a technical problem too ... How conveniant, both France and UK seemed to have technicals problems during the finale. Both countries tried so hard to send something nice and wanted to win badly , were favorites and both countries faced difficulties with technical problems.

I thought Blue did a great LIVE vocal. Lee pulled off the high notes. Their performance was strong and I genuinely thought they had a chance of winning. However...11th isnt THAT bad and 100 is pretty good.

Great to see the viewing figures double last years...it means were getting somewhere. I just hope the BBC really keep the momentum up. Our time will come!

Yup, we are improving. 2009 5th place, 2011 11th but with 100 points. We're getting there.

MTV said on their website that blue did uk proud and emphasised the fact that UK did 10 times better this time than last year. They didn't say anything negative. That's a big plus!

As for 2012, I am hoping for a UK entry who is desperate to win. Hopefully we have a big UK and European promotion campaign and hopefully a good song that can be sung well live.

Yeah I really think the juries killed our chances of top 5 this year because of the non perfect live performance. Will be very interesting to see the result of the split. We definitely need someone with a killer voice who brings a perfect vocal everytime next year! I'm sad we couldn't be just one spot higher, 10th sounds soooo much better than 11th lol

Don't know if anyone has read The Sun newspaper but its a bit of a mixed review for Eurovision.

It says the usual UK robbed and were best but also says that the Eurovision Song Contest has been a great platform for both Blue and Jedward and that their careers will have taken a big step forward (as well as their bank accounts!).

Today's article of Sunday Times on Eurovision is titled 'Londoner wins Eurovision Song Contest - for Azerbaijan'....I also think that maybe England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland divide in this contest and have some points from each other....

The reasons that the UK "failed" (although I do not consider 11th place as failure at all) :

1) Boybands are not for Eurovision.
2) Boybands are old-fashioned anymore.
3) It's the UK (for the known reasons).
4) They did not do anything special on stage. Just standing and singing. Not bad vocals, but not perfect either.
5) They are not that famous anymore. We might know them, but a lot of people don't even remember them. Especially in the Eastern Europe.
6) The song was not that strong to win Eurovision.
7) The juries wouldn't support them really....

This is the typical British arrogance i've come to expect here. The idea that the UK song *must* have been the best, was *completely* flawless and blaming the disappointing position by the politics of the event! First of all, this is the first Eurasian country to ever win out of the new system, with the last two being Western European countries. Like the last two years, the general trend was voters going for the songs they liked, and this reflected in strong showings for Italy - GASP! Another 'Western' country!

There were a lot of strong songs this year, making it one of the best contests for a while in my opinion. Blue got edged out across the board, not helped by an under-par performance and cheesy stage show. Why not actually look at the contest trends and what might be wrong with the selection process in the UK before throwing your toys out of the pram and blaming the system. No wonder nobody votes for UK if all of Europe thinks we hold the same arrogant attitude as yours!

The UK just need to find their Lena or Alexander Rybak. Europe wants to hear something modern, exciting and fresh. Not boyband pop they've been hearing every year...
I'm going to go out on a limb here - the UK has one of the best music scenes in the world. And there's so many types of music popular in the UK - metal, indie, folk-rock, country, classical. Why must you constrict yourself to middle of the road pop?
