Why UK not send Pixie Lot or Leona Lewis or Amy or...... it's zillion extra talented singers in Britain:
For me UK have the best music industry on whole world and the best singers, and generally each year you send a very weak songs to ESC. Why?
I think that BBC don't care too much for ESC and that is the reason!

Pixie is nothing to write home about though.

Amy is amazing and I agree the UK has like the best music industry, BUT those artists would never want to go to Eurovision, that's the problem.

As for the BBC, if the Katie Melua rumor is true, then this broadcaster is f*cked up really to deny her.

Eurovision has little credibility in the UK, it must regain alot for those acts to even consider taking part. This is the sad truth.

Because no 'big' artists want to get involved because it's seen as being 'cheesy' and 'not cool'. The British people see it as a bit of fun, not to be taken too seriously.
The BBC has to serve the public interest as the BBC belongs to the country - would people view it as a viable spending of money to get a massive artist when people are loosing their jobs and falling into poverty?? Im not sure they would...

Those 'big' stars have their own agenda. They have concerts throughout Europe (and even the world). So giving that all up for one performance on Eurovision is a massive loss of income! Plus, why would they participate, they have already their name and fame. It's not as easy as you think. A famous UK artist is famous is in Europe/ the whole world, while other famous artist who have participated in Eurovision, are local celebrities, like Dima Bilan, Kate Ryan,...

I think it's great that the BBC doesn't send 'famous' artist, they give the opportunity to new singers. Sometimes it's goes wrong, but the UK imo is always great at Eurovision.

And I agree, the other boy bands weren't that great. D'nash had a cool song, but they couldn't sing imo, while Blue CAN sing! Btw is Blue still a 'boy band'? Take That was a boy band in the past, but nowadays you can't say that Take That is a boy band :D

I said in my opinion :). I always enjoyed the British entries though. Like last year, it wasn't THAT bad, it certainly didn't deserve the last place (imo ;)). Just like Sweden should be in the final last year, I still can't understand how that happened...

Offcourse, my comment wasn't against you, I just disagreed that's all ;)

No, they didn't deserve last place last year I agree, but I can't say they deserved much better though

But, personally I prefer their 2010 entry over the extremely overrated 2009 one though.

2006-2008 were hot messes lol

Agree with everything you say!! :D

People say about Ani Lorak, Sakis Rouvas, Marija S...., being famous, but we've never heard of them over here in the UK! What do people like Leona Lewis, Lily Allen, etc, have to get out of Eurovision?? They're already superstars... the countries that send 'famous' artists arent doing it for a love of Eurovision - they're doing it to make money and get promotion. The British singers dont need to do that.

Especially love your comment, Seb, 'but the UK imo is always great at Eurovision'. I have to say I agree . I can see why some of our entries are not everybody's taste but we have done much worse than we deserved in recent years - many crapper songs beat us when they didnt deserve to imo, incl. last year. But anyway, that's behind us now, let's look to the future!

Id say they're more kind of manbands :D.

Many famous and globally popular music stars participated in ESC!
Look on Italy this year: Ana Oxa, Moda, Ferrari - they are not local stars!
Patricia Kaas, Nightwish, T.a.T.u. ........................................

I've never heard of Ana Oxa, Moda, Ferrari, Nightwish,....
T.a.T.u. has had one big hit... one day wonder
Patricia Kaas is famous and maybe an exception.

What I mean with local is that they aren't famous around the globe. When T.a.T.u. participated, their glory days were over.
And local doesn't mean they are only famous in one country, Dima Bilan is not a world star. He is known in Eastern Europe. Kate Ryan is known in Belgium, Poland and maybe somewhere else. Maybe I should use the term 'regional stars'.

Hurts, who was also mentioned as a candidate, has concerts over the whole world and they are sold out almost everywhere... You see that there is a difference with the examples you and I mentioned.

Indeed, I think Eurovision needs more western victories, to revaluate the contest (mostly in France !!). But I'm not against the eastern countries.

I get your point, but I support the best songs and not countries though. The east countries have proved they take this contest much more seriously, while the western often complained about diaspora/blocks while in fact what they send were crap.

I agree ^

BTW In last 58 editions Eastern countries were the winners only 10 times (countries from Western Europe won 48 ESC grand prix)!
For me the name of country is not important, only important is quality of song!

That's exactly what I was thinking about : :uk: 2006, :fr: 2007, :uk: 2007, :es: 2008, :de: 2009,...

And because Ukraine, Russia or Serbia win, it's the same : "This should be called Easternvision!", "They always vote between them", "This contest is crap", "We send the best song and we finish last",...

That's the kind of stuff I hear from the french (a lot), and you know why ? They don't accept they haven't won since 1977. For them, :fr: 2007 was the best song, along with :fr: 2008...
