The east countries have proved they take this contest much more seriously, while the western often complained about diaspora/blocks while in fact what they send were crap.

The point that people here make is that Eastern countries also send crap and do really well with it which leads to Western average-type songs coming at the bottom of the pile.

Well, looking at what songs western countries (the complaining countries) send and what eastern send, I'd say the westerners either trying to blame their mess on someone else, or they are deluded.

No, because Eastern countries have also sent the same amount of crap.

Well, firstly we should not forget that there are more Eastern countries taking part, so if it's "the same amount of crap", then it still means that Western countries have been generally worse.

But, I really have to disagree and I find this the typical excuse for one's own country's mistakes really. But I guess it's a matter of taste. But I'm not really the one blaming others for my own county's bad choices.

Yes, there are unfair things going on in the voting for sure, but there's also room for self-criticism aswell in many cases.

Everyone has it's own taste like you said. Western coutries sending crap is an opinion. Eastern countries sending crap is also an opinion. So I don't get the point here, in saying West-Europe is not doing their best. And you can't say countries in the West are the complaining countries. Eastern countries also complain if they won't pass.

And besides we're talking here in the UK thread.

I believe that the UK, Spain, Germany & France ARE DOING THEIR BEST. If they didn't participate, who would support the contest: Serbia? Romania? Albania?

The BBC is world's best and biggest (public) broadcaster imo, they support financially the contest. If the BBC didn't do their best, would they still pay the huge amount? And please don't blame the BBC that they send crappy songs in stead of big stars. It's not up to the BBC to decide 'I want that superstar for the contest'. The UK is, like it or not a democracy, where people can have their own opinion. Life in the UK isn't Orwell's Oceania. And if a big star says 'no', well he/she said no and the BBC accepts it.

And if I were a UK citizen, I wouldn't be keen in paying taxes/licence fees for a superstar who asks a lot of money to participate, while the BBC has to cut in expenses and the gouvernment has taken drastic measures to cope with the financial crisis.

What does democracy have to do with this? I find that statement a bit silly, and YES I know the UK is a democracy, so no use in using that as some sort of silly remark.

If you believe the UK is doing their best, good for you. If choosing a nobody with a dated song over an artist like Katie Melua is "doing your best", then well maybe they are doing the best.

And also, it's not only about spending alot of amount on some big star, Germany and France didn't do that, yet they both came up with current sounding stuff last year and it paid-off, while we all know what the UK send...

I rest my case.

I wasn't reffering to you, I was reffering to the complaints, why the BBC doesn't choose big stars. It's like it's all the fault of the BBC that they don't bring big stars to the stage, but maybe those big stars don't want to perform. They have their own choice.

And yeah, I still believe the BBC is doing their best. About Katie Melua, that are rumours, so it doesn't prove anything. Okay? Sometimes it goes wrong, sometimes it goes right. I think every country has had that.

UK makes fantastic music, but sometimes I have a feeling that people compare the UK entries with the UK music industry. Two different things.

I doubt BBC has been doing their best in many cases, so I just have to disagree here.

I agree with the last sentence though: UK is a great music industry and it definitely doesn't reflect in Eurovision what so ever.

Which is why it is a shame they do not care more to send their best artists

It's not about how much we care though at all, no-one with any amount of current chart success would go anywhere near eurovision in the UK! The BBC can't force a popular act to represent us!

Becuase they have the wrong mindset that it would somehow hurt their careers.
Which is stupid. It MORE would show that they are humble enough and care enough to represent their country in such a fabulous contest

But then again they could pay attention to songs atleast.

I pointed out Germany and France as examples above. Germany send a total nobody, but with a very current Lilly Allen-esque type of song.

And UK (the origin country of this type of music) send what again?

If you can't get the famous artists, atleast pay some effort to the songs then.

I agree with you 100%, I dislike pretty much every entry we've sent in the past few years which is such a shame as I'd love to be able to support my home country for once! It's just such an uphill battle in this country to get the contest seen as anything but a big joke hence why we end up with rubbish entries like last year. The scary thing is that alot of people will have thought last years bubblegum crap is exactly what still does well at eurovision. It's just soooo frustrating being a british eurovision fan lol

BBc could pay them enough to want to participate

The point is there is no money... BBC cant justify spending loads of taxpayers money on Eurovision!!
What would I choose?? To have the forests of this country sold off to make profit or coming last at Eurovision? Definitely the latter!

It doesnt matter if you think it's stupid, it's true. You look at Eurovision from the Romanian perspective, the British perspective is very different!
