Imo, it was a dark humour. They couldn't send a song to Russia because ORT hasn't even thought about ESC selection yet.
If they are just planning - most def Russia will make internal choice and it won't be Hurts.
Rather their thoughts about ESC and quality of the recent British entries in general

ps. *secretly dials Harfoush in order to include them in our NF*
Now seriously, any broadcaster would be happy to have them :p

It seems that besides Blue, the national broadcaster of the United Kingdom had negotiations with group Hurts. The band twitted their reaction to BBC's decision to choose Blue as their 2011 Eurovision representatives writing the following twit:

In light of the recent dark & depressing Eurovision news from the UK, we have decided to submit our song to the good, good people of Russia.

WHAT? Is this true? Then seriously BBC are out of their mind!

Hurts would have been great! (although still not any of my first choices). I'm ok with Blue, but Hurts are obviously better.

But this just smells sarcasm from Hurts though. I think this is just a way to make fun of Eurovision and nothing serious.

Hurts should know that BBC had also negotiations with several other artists (maybe with greater career than they have*not telling about Blue)

I have nooo idea who Hurts are and I doubt many in the UK would know them so Blue is definitely the right choice. Definitely alot more positive buzz about this year than usual, there's the odd negative article but that's always gonna happen with eurovision. I'm really excited :D

I didn’t hear anything about Blue representing us until visiting this forum just now! It wasn’t on the 6’oclock news (from what I recall, in my semi comatose state), and I haven’t seen anything on the BBC news pages, not even under the entertainment section... I hope it’s in the papers tomorrow.

And this is pleasing news! A much better choice than previous rumoured artists like Charlotte Church. I would have preferred something rockier, but at least we’ve got an artist (and hopefully a song!) that has the potential to be top 3 material! :)

I haven't seen much about the announcement in the media. I haven't seen it mentioned on the tv. Paperwise, it wasn't mentioned in the Times and got a tiny two paragraph mention in the metro.

The Daily Mail did run the story, but took the "BBC hates democracy" angle, which says more about the Mail's negative reactionary attitudes than anything. It got on page 3, though. Result!

What they said is just pure jealousy.

They have great music, but I think Blue is the right choice.

How can you not know? You're from the UK right? They were like one of the most discussed newcomers on the British music scene last year with a top.5 debut album there.

Actually I don`t know who this "Hurts" are. Not saying that they are bad, but that they are unpopular in Bulgaria... and from what I read in Romania too.

I understand if people outside the UK are unaware of them, but I'm surprised the Brits in here have never heard of them.

Their album is pretty good I think.

Anyways that's a little off topic, I think their message was not out of jealousy at all, I think it was just sarcasm. I don't see them as a band even thinking of entering Eurovision, but they are the type that probably could make fun of it though like they did in this tweet.
