Regardless of other private ongoings, this simply goes against the ethos and standards of the contest. Artists shouldn’t be scrutinised for performing and furthering their career, nor should they be stipulated to engage in politician propaganda. It’s negative publicity for the contest and it more importantly disencourages artists from competing. Some action needs to be taken so as not to allow this to happen again or to set an example to other broadcasters who would try to exploit artists for a political agenda.

With this statement I assume you know the full story here and you also know what is stipulated in every winner contract throughout Europe and what is going on in all national selections?

Exactly... didn't think so...

Now we can think, ethically speaking, what we want on the matter... but EBU still has nothing to do with local selections for a reason... it just so happens that Maruv made it all publicly here (stunt? her Russian label made her do it?... is she really innocent in all of this?... ).

That’s just beside the point though. Whether or not other broadcasters have as rigorous demands or not, it doesn’t make this acceptable.

I am devastated. I was having a good day, chilling with friends until I received a message from an Ukrainian friend saying Maruv refused to go. I couldn't believe until I see the thread name getting deleted here. I am speechless.
This was the only NF where my fave actually won this year, and my first 12 points. And the winner suddenly gets cancelled. 2019 is being a horrible year.

This is a mess, a really big mess. I hope they really take 2 years break and come back when all this gets forgotten. This whole situation is just unprofessional and disgusting.

That is not a good attitude. Whoever does represent Ukraine should not be blamed for any of this. Deciding to hate an entry before hearing is immature and pointless, since it will no effect on it's result in May.

I think your comments are 100% correct!

Eurovision is not about politics / feuds / personality contest / or hatred toward a TV channel.

Whatever happens and whoever represents Ukraine you need to judge the song / act

It's hard to know whom to believe anymore. A channel representative confirmed that Maruv was, in fact, willing to cancel her appearances in Russia.

I have a question for the Ukrainian members of this forum...

It has nothing to do with Eurovision but I just wanted some help.

In 2004 after Ruslana won, there was a website called WildDances.com or something like that. It had a keyboard and each letter had a different insult in Ukrainian. One I remember was something like "ib div dopo" or something like that. It meant "may a chicken step on your foot"I was hoping one of you could help me and give me a list of insults in Ukrainian because me and a friend used to always insult each other using those but I have forgotten them all

At first I felt so sorry for maruv, and loathed UABC for imposing a crazy contract on her. But reading it from the channel's side, i'm a bit confused.
Maruv's statement that she was invited by 3 countries to represent them sounded a bit unbelievable from the beginning. is she exaggerating and distorting the truth a bit?

Thank god I'm not a judge. I believe everything I'm told lol

What a flippant reaction.

It's not the fault of any artist that their home country is in a messed up situation, unless they specficially choose to be a puppet of the local régime. While Ukraine would deserve an NQ simply based on the draconian conditions they wanted to put MARUV through, projecting that onto their eventual entrant is petty and unfair.

We ought to be better than this.

Of cοurse its'not artist's fault but there is no way UABC and any other country that merge politics and eurovision understand their fault....They should withdraw or be pushed out of eurovision by EBU....If anything of this happens you and me if love eurovision we have to "punish" them ( i repeat not the artist but unfortunately they represent UABC)

I've been saying this from the beginning. That statement she made is not 100 percent true. There is blame on both sides.

Won't achieve anything contructive tho. The casual will not know of the drama going in and they will vote like the normally would have. I feel just as frustrated by the situation as you do, but it's just a waste of energy at this point.

Still fingers crossed for either a renegotiation or a straight-up withdrawal.

Of course it's not you hating my country ....

Anyway, she hasn't become ESC representative so the EBU has nothing to do with that.
Any broadcaster can select their representatives how they want. If MARUV is so politically provoking choice then withdrawing her is for good, according to your own logic.
