If I supported entries on the basis of how accepting of LGBT people the countries they represent are, I could only root for places from Germany westwards so... :?

So on the 100th anniversary of Eurovision, when they have all of these shows about the best ever Eurovision songs and the ones that really stick in your head, this is the one that is going to immediately pop into everyone's head? I think not.

Bring back the fun Eurovision that I used to love - I'm getting really tired of everyone taking it too seriously! Never my winner - Australia and Russia were far better.

Well maybe not for you, but for me and I'm sure for many people across Europe I think this is one of the greatest Eurovision entries ever. I like fun Eurovision entries too but this year was all about Jamala's 1944 and rightly so.

I forgot to add before that I voted for Ukraine 11 times last night, 5 votes for Latvia too. Glad my votes didn't go to waste.

To all the lovers of the Ukrainian song and even more to all those who were afraid of going to Moscow in 2017 cuz gays are so horribly treated there, here is something for you. Enjoy Kyev next year - I hope you come home alive :)

This is atrocious! I think you make a fair point in drawing the attention to that and showing that homophobia exists also in Ukraine and people seem to forget this.

Only thing that I find funny. When we two had a discussion last year about a similar video from Russia you called it "American anti-russian propaganda" that you don't want to see or read about....

So tell me: is this also western biased propaganda, or does this term only apply when we are dealing with Russia? ;)

Haha 1944 is getting so much hate in :at: right now... All commentators are like "this is a political statement" and the "normal" viewers are like "Why did this crap win?" Hm...

I bet they wouldn't have said anything if the Russian's airspace show had won.

Well, Sammy, allow me to clarify my position as it seems to me that you are trying to pin on me something that it is not true, or more accurately said, you are misinterpreting my words.

Firstly, I've never said that I approve Russia's anti-gay propaganda laws. Secondly, when I said that similar videos from Russia are/were American anti-Russian propaganda (and I am writing this without quotation marks cuz I don't doub it), I still believe it. Let me give you an example: when Russia organised really superb winter Olympics in Sochi, all one could read in Western media is how Russians mistreat gays, how atrocious they are in treating people like I am. Well, I agree with that, there is no doubt that gays are treated horribly in Russia, however, before Olympics in Sochi ended, I predicted that these reports would stop as soon as the Olympics would be over. This is what I told at the time to my boss for whom I was writing short stories about the gay rights around the world. You know, two months after the Olympics she sent me an email saying that she totally agreed with me and she felt angry and abused as a gay-rights' activist by Western politics, for it happened exactly as I had said it would: as soon as the lights went out, nobody cared about Russian gays and their problems. So, yes, whenever I see reports about gay mistreatment in Russia in some Western mainstream media (like BBC for instance), I get annoyed. You know, if you don't truely support their cause, don't use their suffering to sell your own agenda - it is even more disgusting than what Russian goverment is doing to them. So, tell me now, who is the bad guy in this story? Gays in Russia and their issues, suffering, humilation are irrelevant, not important either to Russian politicians or Western politicians. It is about grand politics of world power, where such minorities as the gay minority in Russia is, are abused by the big players who try to justify their political agendas.

So, yes, I still believe that talking about the gay-minority problems in Russia by mainstream media is first and foremost a political propaganda of the West, an attempt to vilify a whole nation. Once I will see the same reports about how gay rights are trashed and overlooked by Slovenia (my homeland), Croatia, Serbia, Ukraine, Belarus, and many many other countries, well, then I will start believing that Western reporters write about Russian gays because they are care and want to help them out, to help them to improve their current situation. Until then, I will keep saying and repeating what you obviously reproach me and try to imply that I have double standards. I don't - this video was inserted in my post with the reason the gist of which hopefully you finally understood after reading my posts for one year. And if you still don't understand where my frustration with all Russian haters here is coming from, well, then all my words and posts are in vain.

Finally, as I said to a friend here in a private message: has anybody noticed how few Russian gay ESC fans are here in this forum? Guys, if you so adamantely support their cause and relate to their problems, then, please, instead of bashing Russians for being Russians, for starters try to talk to them as decent human beings which they are, even though they are Russian. Cuz for sure, I can tell to all of you, even if I were gay from Russia, I would never want to talk to any of you if I was getting so much hatred in your posts here from you. So, this is my point of view - perhaps you'll agree with it, perhaps you won't. But please, don't try ever again suggest that I am inconsistent in my writings - cuz I am not, I know damn well what and why I am writing posts here.

Have fun and see you around.

Two years in a row juries ruined the public's first choice. This year the public took revenge and ruined jury's choice as well. Result in both cases: eurovision and ultimately the music have won xyaaay

Congrats Jamala. I didn't really see it coming after her performance in the semi but I am so happy with her winning. The song touched me in so many levels and felt the pain and honesty in Jamala's voice. Lots of love from Kosovo xheart

I really hope the host city will be the beautiful city of Lviv. Does it have any facilities where there can potentially organize the contest there next year?

If a Eurovision song shouldn't be interesting or different, then what exactly do you want? 42 songs of dull manufactured pop??

I admit I worded that really poorly. An interesting or different song can do well and can will (Belgium and Latvia last year, Geaorgia this year) but this is too political, too waily and will hurt the contests already poor reputation. It's almost as bad as if Suus won in 2012

Huge Congrats to Ukraine. It was my favorite and I'm extremely happy that it won ( Among my favorites was also France, Croatia, Bulgaria ). Also I'm happy that the jury and the audience understood the message of this song.

don't bother to write such long answers. I'm just having fun showing you where you contradict yourself.

Well, don't think that my reply was only for you - also other guys read here, and not necessarily everyone shares your opinion. And for your information, it is not up to you to tell me whether I am writing long answers in vain or not: you called me out and I answered point by point. Your short reply tells me you are out of arguments to validate your reproach from before. That is fine. Have a great day ;)
