Humongous congratulations to Jamala and the Ukrainian people. It actually happened!? Those of us crazy nuts who said from the very beginning and until the end that this was the winning song were right to do so and believe in the songs power. For me this is the greatest Eurovision winner EVER by an absolute mile. Raw, sincere, soulful.. it comes from an incredibly deep place. Jamala told her story and Europe listened. Often compared to "Suus", I knew this would go four steps further and take the win. This is a victory for music, a victory for culture, a victory for what's not the norm. It was such a poignant performance. I'm not afraid to say the best ever. Goosebumps on my body throughout all three of Jamala's performances. It happened, it's real!!! Jamala won Eurovision! Something dark and mournful has triumphed. Jamala touched the hearts of Europe with what was a non-commercial, very blunt and difficult to swallow piece of music. I couldn't cry at the time because my smile was too massive but i'll shed a tear now, alone and in the comfort of my own room. Thank you Jamala for baring your soul. I love "1944" with all my heart.

Yes! So happy to see my favourite end up making the comeback win. This is Austria 2014 all over again, only with a better song. This will probably settle in next to Serbia 2007 as my favourite Eurovision winner - it's different, ethnic, emotional, powerful, and true. Surely it also bodes better for the future of the contest than, say, a Russian or Swedish win would've - i.e. this should hopefully encourage more risk-taking, diverse entries in the future. Plus we'll get to see another Eastern-produced contest after four years of Western hosts - I'm curious to see whether it'll more closely resemble the recent Western-hosted contests or the Eastern-hosted ones from 5+ years ago.

Great winner!

Basically everything RainyWoods said. This was a genuine song, nothing but heart and soul and emotion here, and for that I'm delighted that it one, it's so pure.

The worst winner we've had in a loooong time. It is interesting and it is different but that's not what a Eurovision song should be. A winning Eurovision song should be relatable for everyone in Europe, memorable and not political. What credibility the contest had is going to plummet again. One step forward, two steps back :(

I have to disagree.

It would be much worse for ESC if something "from the factory line" won yet again.

I don't see it as political at all. Music is about expressing your emotions, getting inspiration from your life, history... Jamalas song was exactly that.

Can't believe the amount of hateful messages on Eurovision FB page

Oh, and THANK YOU Jamala for winning - i bet 5$ on you and got back $95! Dinner is on you today!!! :D

Great winner!

I agree with a lot there. Ukraine had stunning lights, and it was beautiful. But it wasn't over the top or too much, which I felt Russia was. Hopefully this promotes and inspires songs associated with culture, as we were missing that this year. This was a very contemporary pop year... probably the most ever. And we got a winner that was very different. Fantastic.

1944 can be called political, yes, but it's definitely musically memorable and it conveys a message Europe can relate to.

It's perfectly fine not to like that entry - it's indeed not an easy one to appreciate and understand fully - but I personally refuse to believe there should be only one type of winning Eurovision song. We've recently had our fair share of mainstream winners, happy pop songs, etc.

For once, a non-mainstream gloomy ballad with an actual meaning wins. It's refreshing imo, especially with regards to the other contenders tonight.

You mean... if Israel would write song like this?

I think it was just perfect amount of emotions & inspirations in Jamala's performance. Plus I liked the song before I knew what it's about.
