Well, don't think that my reply was only for you - also other guys read here, and not necessarily everyone shares your opinion. And for your information, it is not up to you to tell me whether I am writing long answers in vain or not: you called me out and I answered point by point. Your short reply tells me you are out of arguments to validate your reproach from before. That is fine. Have a great day ;)

Oh my dear, how dogged you are.... relax! Eurovision is meant to be fun!
I gave you a feedback with a wink of the eye and you are making a state affaire out of it. xfacepalm

Congratulations Ukraine, not in my top. 5 but atleast in my top. 10 this year (it especially grew during ESC week). Most happy this win blocked the plastic Australian ballad blatantly pushed by EBU through juries (since Australia is their new sweetheart) and the dated Schlager-Pop kitsch by Russia that was atleast a decade too late in the contest.

Atleast we got a genuine entry, partly sung in native language with blend of traditional elements and modern/fresh production, with a genuine artist.

xclap

Good song. But the political game from EBU sucks.
Armenia gets punished for a flag, and Ukraine gets the prize...
SO LOGICAL.

First of all, congratulations Jamala and Ukraine!
I had this in & out of my top 10 all through the ESC season - as it was a marmite track. I had a top 5 result for this, like 'Suus' but it went all the way (sort of, as it topped no rankings at the end).

The positive things are:
1. Russia didn't win (cheap plastic song)
2. A song (partly) in a native language won, so hopefully other countries will follow...
3. Backing music was stunning. At least we had a traditional song winning.

Negatives:
1. It doesn't feel like a winner to me (and to be precise, it isn't as it was second on juries and televote)
2. It probably was (for some) a protest vote against Russia (?) I hate politics, especially in a lightweight event like the Eurovision.

Reference in politics. So clear.

Not clear for me at all. For Ukrainians it's the personal story, if you associate it with politics, it's your own bias, but not the intentions of Jamala, which she voices about... ehm... gazillion times ;)

There's politics in everything. To the staging, to a song about love, to choosing a costume, to me deciding if I want tea or coffee with breakfast.

There are no politics in this song anymore than there is in Conchita's entry in 2014, to Fairytale in 2009, but the cardinal sin for Jamala in many people's eyes seems to be that she wrote a song based on true events of her family, and could be applied to the current situation of Crimean Tatars. That's fine, but the bias is in the individual minds which only leads to contempt when other people think the same. At the end of the day, political statements are made in the mind of individuals. The media also took this angle from they day she won the Ukrainian national final.

When it becomes a way to attack and harass the artist and send death threats though, to only go onto videos and social media to spew hatred that's when it becomes another level.

Anyway I'm still overjoyed my favourite entry won this year. I thought it was special when I first heard it, but for it to remain my favourite and it win? Amazing. Jamala is a great artist and I hope for continued success for her, and I'm sure Ukraine will put on a great show in 2017 wherever it may be. :)

Okay okay, it's your choice to pretend not to see the problem. When Russia will make a song about a personal story of a Crimean Russian girl crying about the bad Ukrainian nazis that did bad stuff to her, please don't be grumpy.

Haha 1944 is getting so much hate in :at: right now... All commentators are like "this is a political statement" and the "normal" viewers are like "Why did this crap win?" Hm...

Quite ironic coming from Austria.

This winner is clearly political. The song might be nice to hear, with a pertinent historical message, but it's not a winner. Australia and Russia had way better songs that would have been the rightful winner. The juries have been biaised I think.

But anyway, bravo Ukraine and see you next year in Kiev.

Ever so slightly belated, but huge congratulations to Jamala on winning. Super happy Ukraine won last night, even if it wasn't one of my main favourites I still liked the song and it was a deserving winner. I had said many times that I didn't think Western Europe wouldn't like it, and i'm happy that I was proven wrong last night. People were clearly touched by the emotions she showed in the song and by how it was presented. The song and staging complimented each other perfectly, and they didn't allow the staging to become an overblown mess and over shadow the song. A lot of countries should really look to Ukraine and learn how to properly present a song. I hope they go for another city and not Kyiv as host, it would be nice to see another part of Ukraine next year. I'm sure Ukraine will be great hosts anyway. :D Congratulations once again. xheart

Quite ironic coming from Austria.

Well, cuz Austrians and Germans have learnt their political lesson from their own history and they know what it means to discuss/touch upon touchy topics as up to this day both, Austrians and Germans are raised with high awarness and feelings of guilt of what their grandfathers have done. So, they are even more sensitive to all this political aspect of the song, cuz they wouldn't dare even start this topic.... But seeing that someone not only comes with a political song (however historical it is), and even wins - yes, they should be and are angry. And there is no irony in this.

While none of the songs were near my favourites, Ukraine had the best song for me, and I was one of those people that thought it shouldn't have been approved in It's current format. But the song undeniably good. Australia had a decent song performed to another level by Dami, and Russia had a kitchen sink cheesefest that was lucky to finish as high as it did.
