You didn't mention Heroes, but it won though.Yeah, this feels to me like the quintessential song that becomes a favourite in the odds and ends up finishing second on the night. You know the type - perfectly manufactured, nothing much to criticise, easy jury-bait, but just missing that special something. A Million Voices, Sound of Silence, Beautiful Mess and so on.
But I completely agree with you. This song is incredibly polished, something many of the general audience will like if the staging is good and it's an overall balanced entry. It IS a good entry.
However. It falls flat the same way top-entries in the past you mentioned did, it's too polished. It lacked the ''dirt'' that made Euphoria, 1944 and Love Injected so special. I have heard songs like Arcade before, but very few are similar as gems like Down Under.
