Re: THE NETHERLANDS 2016 - Douwe Bob - Slow down

Sorry, don't like it at all. It's a clear attempt to copy 2014 and I think it falls flat on its face in comparison. It sounds dated and I don't feel any sense of authenticity that this music should really have - Specially formulated nonsense.

Oh dear, I however think that this is more authentic than the 2014 entry which I found it a bit more mainstream and soulless, but if you are talking about the Dutch broadcaster's kind of strategy...well even if it'd be true, I don't think it makes the song any worse. Just like sending something "not so dated" wouldn't make it any better.

I like it. Among so many up-tempo songs, this will make a nice change of tune. I'm not enthousiastic, but I think this is a really good choice. Hopefully he qualifies.

I'm torn. It certainly feels genuine emotionally, and I do like some of the melodic tricks he pulls, but I'm not big on his voice. The last minute is great, mostly because he drops the Southern accent and just decides to sell the message of the song in his own perfectly lovely, genuine accent. I give this a VERY tentative thumbs up - it could wear thin very quickly, or it could be something I really start to fall for. It's certainly going to escape my 30s, unlike I predicted when he was announced as the artist.

Well done! That was a good surprise or, as you could say, a dark horse.
Frankly, I wasn't expecting anything interesting from someone called Douwe Bob. Instead, I was already hooked on the fist verse. Straight into my top5! xclap

If Trijntje "bombed" according to your biased opinion, then explain me how she was 5th in the jury voting? That's hardly a "bomb".

She bombed because she failed to qualify and came 14th out 16 songs in the weaker semi, and only because my opinion doesn't fit yours and most others doesn't make it bias. ;)

I'll give it 8 for now , something different and NL generally does country and western better than the rest of Europe.

I actually like this more than Calm after The Storm, which was plain boring for me  It will stand out in this edition, I think. 8 points :D

Consuming the replay button on youtube. What an earworm!

Do you think I'll ever learn?
I used to be without concern.
Now all I ever do don't seem to free me.

You do know the TV channel has no input and it's the artist deciding what song to use? Also you mentioned the Netherlands were a disappointment the last couple of YEARS, so that includes Anouk and The Common Linnets. Both scored high. This song fits Douwe Bob's style and his previous albums, so he's not copying anybody here, but is just being himself instead of adjusting himself to ESC.

Maybe so, but they still picked him knowing his style and the sort of song that would come out of it. I doubt he just turned up at their offices like "heeeyyyyyy I'm going to represent us this year at Eurovision" and they were like "lol ok whatevs". They were a disappointment for me because they don't suit my taste, not overall at Eurovision and yes, that does include both Anouk and The Common Linnets, just because they scored well doesn't mean I have to like their songs. Again, I never said he was copying, i said the broadcaster was copying, which is said in my post you quoted. Either way, I still dislike the song.

Years by years we have to listen to the same "country" styled primitive song. 0 pts

Calm After The Storm had a realy fitting staging and perfomance. It was simple, but helped to feel the song and get impressed by it. With the wrong approach it could easily flop. Slow Down can actualy score just as well if it receives the similairy good/thoughtful treatment.

I had very low expectations about the Netherlands this year. They confirm their tendence to be peculiar at least but this song is quite good in its own style. I still wonder if it's gonna make it through the semis because it seems completely out of place, but that's "the Dutch trademark". It's quite enjoyable, to say the truth, but I can't classify it yet
