Funny how the Dutch again try to score with a country/folk song.
Not bad, but not outstanding either. Solidly produced, but lacks a certain edge. Maybe it will get better after several hearings, like CATS did.

I don't think so, this is what Douwe Bob does as a singer, its his style!

Might just be that this isn't really my kind of song, but I'm a little disappointed. It's cohesive, it does its job, but... that's about all it does. There's nothing to separate it from really any other country song, or make it memorable, or... anything, really. It feels like the songwriter just had a brief saying 'write a country song that lasts for three minutes', put in the minimum required effort to fulfil that, and this is what we ended up with. 4 points, verging on a 3.

And there's the winner of the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest! It's not Douwe Bob's best song but the casual viewer won't know that. It's good quality, catchy and his voice is so hypnotizing. 12 points.

The Netherlands to the rescue. This is a darn alright slice of country pop (whatever you want to call it). It comes across as genuine which is a humongous plus and of much importance to me. "Slow Down" is very radio friendly but that doesn't really subtract from the song. The verses are more interesting than the (dare I say) repetitive chorus but overall everything works well. It's nothing super special but it's totally listenable, and in what is shaping up to be such a dire year, this song is near enough like a diamond. It's got a really timeless feel to it.

I don't understand how a lot of people weren't mesmerized by Calm After The Storm from the first listen. Anyways, it's not even slightly close to that level for me... so yes I am disappointed but well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ... maybe i brought it upon myself, it just doesn't compare to most of the other songs for me from him or from ESC 2016 so far. Seems like an extremely random song. Nothing makes me want to listen to this repeatedly. But I really like him sigh. And it's not a bad song of course, probably will grow on me, I would give it 7 points for now.

A lot will come down to the staging. CATS never would have done as well as it did without the brilliant staging. I like the song though, it's definitely a step up from Trijntje last year.

I was longing for the Dutch song to become my hot favourite, I expected something magical like CATS, but I'm disappointed now. I'm kinda cold to this after the first listening. It will qualify, sure, but I don't think this is going too far. For now, I can't give more than 5 points, probably because of the high expectatives I had.
