The best thing about the lead up to Eurovision is Valentina Monetta interviews
She's so cute and beautiful. I didn't listen to "Maybe" yet, but I hope she'll reach the final this time.
WTF!!! :? :? :?

I wish there was more diversity too. The problem is actually the artists not being brave enough. Generally the sophisticated songs get rewarded. "Madness of Love", "Suus", "Et Sil Fallait Le Faire" and "Birds" all did well despite not being typical Eurovision entries... Perhaps not quite as well as some of them deserved to do but still they achieved top 10 placings. The problem actually could be Eurovision itself. Artists capable of producing such songs as these seldom ever want to take part. The same with bands, most bands at Eurovision aren't too great (in my opinion).
I guess you're right. Most "original" artists, especially if they're established, don't want to take part either because they're afraid of losing credibility or just doing poorly depending on the country they're from. Even if a top ten placing is good for unconventional entries, it may be hard for some artists to be beaten by joke songs or rubbish : "Madness of Love" topped by "Running Scared", "Suus" topped by "Party for everybody", "Et s'il fallait le faire" topped by "This is our night", and "Birds" by "What If", etc.
None of them are joke entries or rubbish at all...
to be politically correct, I should have said "of lesser quality".

As the Netherlands last year, I'd be thrilled if the last country to qualify in the 1st semi was San Marino.
