I like it. But unfortunately it's not outstanding. Certainly not a "Crisalide" here. I can't see this qualifying.

I agree, if "Crisalide" didn't make it, I can't see this one (that is much weaker) making the cut.

Isn't there any chance to have the song in Italian??? English doesn't suit it AT ALL

For me, the chorus is better in English. It's something like 'Deja caer, deja la lluvia caer' in 'Dancing In The Rain'... Although the song was in English, this part is required in Spanish... Precisely, the best point of the song is when Valentina sings 'Maybeeeeeeeee'.

This song sounds like classical Italian stuff in Italian. In English is just an old-fashioned and dated cheesy song.

The "be" in "Maybe" has more volume than the "se" in "Forse". I often get a pain in my chest when I listen to the English version. Being able to understand the lyrics probably helps a lot. I'm not usually one for urging artists to sing in English, quite the opposite but I feel a lot more heartache from the English version. The lyrics are beautiful as is Valentina's voice, achingly so. I just think she takes the song higher in English.

I just bought Valentina's new album and am listening nowxheat

Don't listen to it for too long, or else you'll only have a month to recover. We need you fresh for when San Marino qualifies.

Gosh you think she'll qualify? That's the positive spirit this thread needsxyes

The album is very good. Much better than last years release (which was actually more of an ep with a million versions of Crisalide) and also Valentina's very first mini album she released some years ago. It's a very mixed bag though. There are a few tracks that sound like soap opera themes which aren't the greatest. The middle of the album is delicious though. The big band jazz is beyond anything else we have heard from Valentinaxheat She goes insane with the scatting on some tracks. There are two or three here that should have been chosen over "Maybe". Nothing bares the same emotional pull that "Maybe" has on me however. The jazz tracks would have been an easy jury magnet so it's very sad that tracks of such sophistication and quality have gone to waste.

I didn't actually realise how small San Marino was until now...

A brilliant new song from Valentina's new album. This is actually one of my favourites, only behind the sensational "Non Mi vergogno più" that no one has uploaded to youtube yet. I'd like to know whether Ralph was involved with these particular songs because that probably went against them being picked if he wasn't involved in any way. "Hotel" is fabulous but literally go on Spotify or anywhere where you can hear the album and listen to "Non Mi vergogno più". I'm actually annoyed it wasn't picked. I love "Maybe" but these jazz tracks are the real Valentina.

These two songs especially, wouldn't have just got Valentina to the final, she could have achieved top 10 with them.

Is jazz really successful in ESC?

Otherwise, maybe Valentina just trusts Ralph's work to send something different than her usual music style in ESC.

Hmmm - After listening to "Hotel" I am happy that Valentina sticks to her rather old fashioned sounding "Maybe". I never liked jazz much, and even though I guess this music is what Valentina does best; I much prefer her two latest ESC entries.

"Madness of Love" has been the only Jazz song we've had from the past few years and that came 2nd. I think that Eurovision is just too big a deal for Valentina to turn down. She obviously has big respect for Ralph as well i'm sure but she knows what her passion is musically. You can hear Valentina's jazz sensibilities aching to be set truly free in the past three entries.

To be honest, i'm surprised there is not more jazz at Eurovision. It's a very impressive, sophisticated genre with some of the highest artistry required. I suppose because it's not relevant anymore.. somehow disney ballads about peace are though. I'm certain that juries would go crazy for a good quality jazz entry as they did so for Rapheal's.

I knew that you would take Madness of Love as an example. I wanted to know if there were others, since after all these years, I keep on thinking that that second place was nothing more than a comeback gift for Italy, no matter what they could have sent. And Suus can't be compared with songs like "Hotel" of course.

I wish there was more diversity in ESC, artists should be more daring too, if we still have Disney ballads nowadays, it's mainly because of the juries.

Many people do believe the 2nd for "Madness of Love" was a comeback gift for Italy but I prefer to see it as a quality entry being rewarded. Looking back, Eurovision 2011 was a particularly lacklustre year. I can't think of any entry that year with a better craft than Italy's song. The only countries entry whom I preferred more was Albania's but Italy certainly had the song of the finest quality. The jury are responsible for some dodgy stuff over the years but they did right that year.

"Suus" was in essence an experimental jazz song I believe. The english version Rona released actually was a jazz interpretation. The jury again did a great thing in ranking her very high.

I wish there was more diversity too. The problem is actually the artists not being brave enough. Generally the sophisticated songs get rewarded. "Madness of Love", "Suus", "Et Sil Fallait Le Faire" and "Birds" all did well despite not being typical Eurovision entries... Perhaps not quite as well as some of them deserved to do but still they achieved top 10 placings. The problem actually could be Eurovision itself. Artists capable of producing such songs as these seldom ever want to take part. The same with bands, most bands at Eurovision aren't too great (in my opinion).
