Something about this reminds me of Armenia 2014 actually :)

The statement "staging doesn't help if the song is not good enough" makes no sense in this case because Scream is still second with the bookies and obviously a favorite. We have seen good stagings give the predicted NQs a top 10 result so Russia winning with a good staging is not a reach by any means. ;)

It's only been out for an afternoon and the money people put on Russia before the song doesn't magically go away. The amount this has drifted by speaks volumes on fan reaction.

So what’s wrong with it? If he gets robbed again for being too perfect (I think that was one of the reasons juries let him down in 2016) he should quit Eurovision forever! Kristian Kostov had similar problems... people didn’t felt his song because he was allegedly too young to sing that beautifully and about a topic he obviously must not have experienced at his age. I think he was robbed too, people went for „raw“ music of Sobral and probably Portugal again this year, but the Netherlands' song - which I love very much don’t get me wrong - comes across as VERY staged, almost musical or Disney vibes. So if THIS piece of art is liked by the juries and Sergey‘s not then it‘s obvious he‘ll get robbed again.

How on earth is Netherlands' song feel staged? If you know about the background of the song, it's about a story of his dead friend. When Duncan sings it in the studio version, you can feel his vulnerability and honesty (mind you, I am still not completely sold on the Netherlands' entry because for his first 'live' performance I still feel he is lacking the connection). But listen to Sergey' song, you know he is just trying to showcase his vocals and trying to hit all the right notes. It felt more calculated and it's obvious Russia wants to send a song that can win the juries' vote that Sergey lost previously.

And also, sometimes, it's not about being perfect to win the competition."You Are The Only One" failed with the juries not because it was too perfect, but because the juries could see through the staging is made extravagant just to mask a pretty generic song (don't get me wrong, I really enjoy "You Are The Only One" but it clearly didn't deserve to win, sames goes to Ukraine's song).

Interesting. For me both Scream and Arcade feel very calculated and staged, with the difference of Scream being openly so, while Arcade is trying to somehow hide it and pretend it's a super vulnerable and honest song. Maybe that's why I prefer Scream, out of these two.

Exactly this. I don't feel Arcade at all. It sounds so contrived and insincere. Russia is at least honest about its intentions. Both songs are garbage designed to win Eurovision.

This song was made for the stage. I feel like only hearing it without seeing the staging doesn't do it any justice. Once we ge to see the staging I'm convinced Russia is going to sail up as a major frontrunner once again.

We know Sergey is a really good performer but it's not enough. If you don't have the song with it then it's not going to work.. It's definitely a top 10-5 material, but not more. It will do as well as Estonia last year, that's it.

I'm giving it a 6. It's too theatrical for my taste.
Being Russia I'm almost sure it will be top 10 but hopefully not a top5.

And basing it on studio versions I'm actually between this and last year's Samoylova.

Can't we send Yulia again? This time with actually within her style?

I think 150 JV + 220 TV is realistic.

Even though his entry is a bit "bland", I don't think that we should rule out of a :ru: win this year. This song is powerful enough to score a lot of points with the televote, much more than Duncan or anyone else, and we didn't get to see the staging yet.

The song is not my cup of tea at all, but stunning music video. If the staging will be anything like that and capture the same atmosphere, Russia will indeed be back to the top.

(Kinda afread of a Dima Bilan 2006-2008 scenario however, winning with the (to me) inferior entry... that would make me so angry)

I totally get if people enjoy this song, but I think the Russia hype has been incredibly strong this season and the waves are still high. If Ireland had given this out it wouldn't have recieved much attention.

Okey, this comment is really funny when it is coming from a Swede, a country whose songs are always hyped no matter what xrofl2xroflxrofl3
