Ukraine is a televote winner while France is a jury winner.

not saying it's gonna be like that but it's a probable option , I think it could enhance both entries, Juries will probably be like "oh thank god something that we can relate to with France after Ukraine, it's refreshing" I think it could come as a relief while for the televote people will still be charmed by Ukraine and they're gonna found France boring af.

And they actually help each other, your attention begins with Lithuania to make you ready for Ukraine. After Ukraine you're like energized and after so many songs it's difficult to stand out with a ballad but thanks to Ukraine people will be full awake to have maximum attention. It clashes so hard that if you absolutely love Ukraine you will remember it 300% and if you hate it, France seems like its opposite and you'll remember it too. Then you have 3 songs that obviously are gonna suffer from the comparison cause they're nowhere as memorable.

Italy on the other hand, now that I think of it comes a little bit late to this party, it's like the climax of the evening already happened and the few songs left are like the credits of the movie. They follow a somewhat mid of the road entry, it'll take some time to re-focus and be in the song. I still think they have a great draw anyway but i'm more confident about this building up of favorites.

After both semis, the performance I really enjoyed the most was Azerbaijan - Mamamama, MamaMatahari!.

Perhaps because it surprised me so much with that final 1 minute of power. It was just fun and easy to listen to.

Italy will win and Ukraine will finish Top 3.

I have a feeling Albania is going to do a bit of a North Macedonia 2019 and finish Top 10 because of high scores from the juries. Televoting wise, I think she will do a lot better with the public than that one, so I would put a few £ on Top 10 finish. Plus I quite like the song and her performance. She has a great voice too.

Cyprus is a fantastic show opener, but it's such a shame at number 1, as people will forget it or miss it.

They should do the draw where the artists get allocated a batch from 1-4, 5-9 etc. Then they can decide within that order. If there are props needed etc, just introduce cringy interviews in between etc.

Running order is so important to be noticed in this show, so think there should be more randomness.

Yeah, :fi: this year is very by-the-numbers imitation of Linkin Park, I still enjoy it a lot though, the chorus is very memorable, and those 'monkey sounds' are cool. Teräsbetoni and Lordi are still superior for me.

Imagine Nightwish for :fi:. With their current Dutch singer they would get a lot of clout in Rotterdam. But they very rarely record songs this short (to be able to take part).
Nightwish is much too big to participate. It would be very cool if they or Floor Jansen were to provide an act during the voting break, although it might distract people too much from actually doing the voting. xD
They are probably too busy at the moment, preparing for the big virtual performance one week from now.

(Me and my daughter would have voted for Finland this second semi if the voting system allowed us.)

After being bored to tears by Netherlands and Tix, Italy is going to stand out massively. Wouldn't be surprised with they got the highest televote ever.

I don't know if it exactly works like that, it's more like "who can vote for this ?" Italy is fine cause obviously that's the best song between Azerbaijan to Sweden so they'll grab some votes. But imo being sandwiched between two middle of the road songs doesn't make you shine that much, audience will be bored after those 3 songs and Italy is gonna have to bring it 300% (and they're gonna do it) to keep the main focus on them and convince people that the contest is not over yet as you could think that they kept the build up of favorites not so late in the running order but not at the end either and after it's just fillers and it's not cause Italy is a contender.

I mean it's just from what perspective you're seeing this. I we compare to a movie, if let's say Italy is the climax, Will you remember the climax better if the scenes before are average and the one after is average so it shines better or will you remember the climax better if you got a decent build up of scenes before to keep you on the edge of your seat ?

I'm more like a second option but I can see the point of people leaning towards the first option. Anyway Italy is for sure still a contender.

I think you are comparing the show to a movie, a little too much lol.

Italy are the favourites post-rehearsals/performances. That is already huge indicator they will finish Top 2.

Whatever their position, the public are loving Italy.

The last 1/4 of the show is typically where most acts want to be.

So Swedens Draw isnt that good.
But it is interesting, Sweden was 6th in semi odds and is ~13th as of today. It's either a very new running order formula or the following;
The penultimate song in the final has won or come 2nd in the televoting in their semi-final in the last three years. (Australia, Cyprus, Bulgaria).
The two countries that won their semi-finals those years have also been placed an average of 14 places from each other in the final (13, 15, 14). If we say - per odds - Switzerland won SF2, seeing Malta and Cyprus so early...did Sweden win their semi?

And do you know where the devils are? In the Discotheque. Number of the beast is 666. Add them together and you have 18 where The Roop has its place.

Lithuania is my favourite this year and easily the first one I’ll buy the single for. I don’t care if it isn’t “artsy”. I usually end up buying the singles from a few artists each year and often they come with awesome remixes.

Dancing alone in my single flat speaks to me! They’re fun, confident, authentic, sexy and very Eurovision. What’s not to love!

Sorry to MrLordi above, but I thought Finland lacked authenticity too. Not a great hard rock/metal-esque (whatever) entry. Apparently they hate the term "metal" according to Joel and Myf. Presumably because they think they're above 90s pop-metal, which they're really not!
In an interview (I think with Eurovoxx) Blind Channel said that 'violent pop' is purely used now for brand and marketing reasons. They know that 'nu metal' is more accurate.

They found it hard getting bookings when they started. I may not be getting the exact detail right but it was something along the lines of them using violent pop because they thought it would help them get more bookings because it made them sound closer to what was mostly getting booked. It worked and the level of entertainment they provided prevented organisers from being mad at how they had described themselves.

Since they had used the term before they continue to use it as its part of their brand now.

Thanks for letting me know. Can’t say I know much about the artists this year.

They still don’t hold a candle to O Torvald at their home Eurovision in 2017. Amazing.

What’s also amazing is that Jamala performed a song in the interval that was better than every song in that semi final. Zamanyly was worthy of winning again. I have huge respect for that lady. Ukraine is amazing so often. What is it about that country.? And how can we forget (well no one will) Verka, one of the crowning moments of Eurovision history!

Omg thank you for reminding me of Zamanyly. It was really the best song of the evening, I was listening to it almost religiously for months after that edition was over 😂

If this happens, well...

Running order vs (betting markets placement);

7 Portugal (8)
11 Switzerland (4)
12 Iceland (6)
16 Finland (7)
17 Bulgaria (10)
19 Ukraine (5)
20 France (2)
24 Italy (1)
26 San Marino (9)

Notice the groups? One isn't. Guess who. *evil laugh*. Ok, I'll stop now.

Sean thinks Bulgaria is a contender for winner chicken dinner.

So, since my very important questions remain unanswered in the chat, with which winner would you like to have chicken dinner with, @Sean ?
Sorry, just noticed this. Very good question

I would say Salvador as I feel I could have the best discussion with him, or Lordi for the chaotic energy. Duncan Laurence also fits somewhere between the two I think!
