With a pandemic that killed so many people and is still ongoing I find it puzzling that it should be rewarded and considered "making an effort" to turn up than to follow the laws of your country to help deal with this pandemic.

Of course, on a grander scale of things, what Australia delegation did is sensible.
But from the competition point of view, I can see why people may not be in favour of Australia not being there and will prefer to give their votes to artists who are there in Rotterdam.

But let's be honest, if the Australia govt did allow Montaigne and her delegation to travel to Rotterdam and the delegation is able to adhere the safety protocols when they are in Rotterdam and back in Australia, I doubt we will be having this conversation.

As I'm not working for the Australian authorities I don't have the full insight  , but from my understanding it's practically impossible to get in or out from the country if not for some very special exceptions, and I'm afraid a music contest in Europe that doesn't have a major public in Australia isn't considered important enough to make exceptions regarding the pandemic strategy.

Ther is a reason as to why Australia is one of the most successful countries on the planet when it comes to dealing with this.
It's been described in the Australian thread though -> their authorities are perfectly ok with sportswomen/sportsmen going out and in, they even let the Australian Open happen in winter. There's a kind of double standard between arts and sports, neither being (imo) absolutely vital activities, but sports usually get more priority. This doesn't apply for Australia only of course.

As for the major public interest, wasn't the huge Australian fanbase of Eurovision THE reason for them being included in the contest in the first place?

That is true, there is a bias, but I guess they do weight in public interest and unfortunately it's not that big for Eurovision (that was just EBU propaganda to bring them in the contest, most Aussies don't watch it at all)

the fact that montaigne might have not been able to travel to rotterdam lies maybe in her pretty low chances of qualification. if dami im or any other renowned Australian singer had been selected in 2020, let me tell you that the Aussie delegation would have done everything to bring him/her to rotterdam lmao

that being said, montaigne didn't deserve that

wiwibloggs kinda likes moldova. but let's be honest, it was never about natalia and her performance, kirkorov just cares about himself and how he could present himself. he wouldn't want natalia to steal his spotlight. but imo the song doesn't suit her anyway.

I really don't think that's the case, again Australia is super strict when it comes to Covid measurements and they only make some exceptions.

Eurovision really isn't a big deal there, I am not surprised at all that an exception wasn't made here as it's in most cases almost close to impossible to leave or enter the country.

Kirkorov is a sponsor of Wiwibloggs though so no surprise...

Anyways it's a meh song with a bad singer, no surprise really.

Natalia looked so nervous. Can't judge her vocals properly, as she was singing with a very whispery voice, I hope that's because she's saving her voice. The staging is actually quite epic, mainly due to the hot dance moves. It looks very neat and well-rehearsed. Many people in my team disagree with me tho, saying the stage looks so empty. I gotta agree with them too, but if she could sing with power vocals, it would also make the stage look more dynamic. And GOD why is everyone's LED so similiar :/

that's where i highly doubt what they state about health concerns when it comes to allowing sportsmen/women going to some championships in europe.

plus, had dami im been internally selected with paper dragon, there would have been a massive push towards her making it to rotterdam.

anyway, as i said before, i feel very sad for montaigne

To be honest, I really feel sorry for Rafal, having to endure all these "hate" that he probably doesn't deserve for the most of it. It's not his fault that the broadcaster decided to select him. But he got the flak of it just because it's easier to "hate" on him since he is TVP's pet. At this point in time, I thought a large amount of criticism he is facing is not even objective. It's treading along the lines of bullying. #poorrafal

Yes, there is a bias in favor of sport events, but again the exceptions are also to weight in public interest.

I don't think Dami Im would be treated differently, it's simply that Eurovision isn't as big of a deal and that's it.

I feel sorry for her, but not surprised either.
