Can somebody from Portugal explain to me a bit "Gerbera amarela do sul"?
What it is about, and what message it brings? Why is he dressed like that? Why those backings do what they do?

From what i could tell (i read very little about it as I'm not really keen on it), i think it's a metaphorical funeral of our country. Hence the black and the choir mourners. The lyrics play around a criticism on nepotism and corruption. The over the top campiness is just his artistic personna, i guess. Gender fluid.

What bothers me the most is this avant-garde performance in a song that is basically a throw back to the 70's political intervention songs here in Portugal. I don't think they go well together at all.

Edit: Gerbera is the flower that we typically put on graves.

Consulado is consolance I guess, like emotional support? So the ending seems to be like consolance for me, you and an uncle I think? So that would be after the funeral, the sarcasm palpable.

Verse seems to be about that the aristocracy is unreasonable, more pine than eucalyptus etc (pine stings, eucalyptus is nice).

Portuguese is hard.

Yeah. The lyrics are totally tricky even in portuguese and thus unfit for Esc, i think. Plus, i hate when they theme national issues. But Sambado's purpose is to promote his work. He was very vocal about this. I don't think he had any intention in winning, and yet he was still one of the few acts that were actually professional and thought through yesterday.

Consulado translates to "embassy". Consolado means "comforted". He plays with both words.

The lyric is "more eucalyptus than pine(tree)" is a reference to a law in Portugal know as "the eucalyptus law" that allowed forest companies to plant eucalyptus in Portugal, a tree that is more profitable than pine trees.
That law and the rise of eucalyptus trees in our forests is seen as the cause for the rise of forest fires in the last years in Portugal.
Eucalyptus trees also need more water than pine trees, that's why the next verse says "Its a desert all year round".

The song was made for the portuguese public, it's references and word play doesn't work in another language and Sambado knows that, he doesn't want to win Festival da Canção e just wants his message to be heard

What happened to Blasted Mechanism? I saw them live ten years ago in Spain and I swear they didn't suck like that.

That show, that performance.. it just seemed a joke. A very bad one.

Their non-qualification is well deserved.

Thanks for elaborating.

I don't give a shit what Sambado made his song for. I decide if I'm a part of his audience. I like his song well enough as it is. He should understand that although the song is lyrically specific to Portugal, the sentiment is not.

Yeah but they can't send an entry that was terrible live just because it has potential to be good in May.

Blasted would have been shit anytime anywhere. For your regular viewer they just come across as a bunch of no-hope douche-bags stuck in the year 2000 when nu metal was still cool.
