Re: PORTUGAL 2017

I'm quite excited to hear the song from Deolinda.

She is the one I'm the most excited for in this SF. Deolinda has an amazing voice and Rita Redshoes has amazing songs, I can't wait to see what they come up with!

OMG there is a hope to see the light in the end of the tunnel for Portugal in ESC!

And that is Deolinda Kinzimba!! xlove xheart

I have checked who that is, with such an interesting name and found a brilliant pearl from Luanda, Angola!

Some of he performances in The Voice gave me goosebumps.. xfaint

I hope she won't let me down.. xyes

Re: PORTUGAL 2017

On paper, this is already better than anything RTP came up with this decade. I have a feeling they really are trying to turn the tables. I have been so disappointed in them for the past few years. I hope this is a rebirth in the competition.

Fernando Daniel improves everything he sings. Even with that composer, I am sure he will be fine.

The two songs I am looking forward the most in the first semi-final are from Lisa Garden and Viva la Diva.

Lisa has put out very good pop-oriented music. Producer SirAiva is behind stuff like this, and I am sure he has created magic with Lisa again has they did in the past. Her song is in English, which is a plus.

Viva la Diva will be singing a song produced by a member of The Gift (Nuno Gonçalves). The Gift are a fantastic band – even though I am bigger fan of their progressive sound than their recent traditional one, I believe the song will be great.

Re: PORTUGAL 2017

I also agree RTP is trying to turn tables and do something different. They invited some of the best Portuguese musicians that are very successful in today's music scene. Most of them opted for the Portuguese language. Honestly it doesn't bother me that much. There is always the chance that they change the language if it ends up going to esc. A good song is a good song! And we haven't been sending those.

I'm a little bit scared from what comes from Feist and Fernando, because usually Feist entries are dull as hell. He keeps saying that is going to be classic. If we have something like Israel 2010 I'm totallyy up for it but I don't want to have high hopes. From the first semi-final I'm very curious from Deolinda, Lisa, Kika and Rui Drummond. His composer said he is working on a ballad and if it is something like one of their last songs "Peito" I would be quite satisfied.

Re: PORTUGAL 2017

RTP has revealed the singers for the second semi-final.

Semi-final 2

1. David Gomes ("My Paradise")
2. Lena D'Água
3. Beatriz Felício
4. Pedro Gonçalves
5. Helena Kendall
6. Celina da Piedade ("Primavera")
7. Jorge Benvinda
8. Elisa Rodrigues had a car accident, but she is OK; she will understandably not be a part of the show, and the composer is lookng for another singer

ESC Portugal actually published an article with these names a few days ago. But now it is confirmed. David is actually in this, and his song is an English-language pop one. His blind audition on The Voice was my favourite. Song #4 is also in English.

Fernando Daniel has already recorded an English version of his song; it is called "Lost in You". He will perform the Portuguese version in Festival da Canção, and the English one is for Eurovision in case he wins.

The second semi-final is not as good as the first one in termos of names. However I think Pedro Gonçalves is promising, he says he has a modern eletropop song...let's see what will come out of it. His song title is also known already - "Don't Walk Away"

Re: PORTUGAL 2017

yeah... second semi-final is not that exciting. FOR NOW! we really have to wait for the songs. I'm only excited for Pedro Gonçalves. I've read his and the composer interview and they are heading in a total Eurovision mindset. Which is good! His composer named Euphoria a Heroes has his favourites and Pedro named Aram Mp3 song has his favourite. If we are having a mix of that... THUMBS UP!

Tóli César Machado gave an interview to RTP and said something very interesting. He said (and I'm quoting): "They told me I would be crucified by taking a song in English (...) I know some that are going to sing in Portuguese and if they win they are going to sing in English. And I think that's not fair. You should assume from the starting point that you are going to sing in English."

So... Or something very traditional wins Festival da Canção or I'm going to take a risk and say that we probably going to have an English song in esc even if it's a Portuguese one that wins the NF.

It's a pity, Portugal was one of the last countries not to sing in english.

I think chances are we're gonna sing in Portuguese this year. 13/16 songs in FdC are in Portuguese and I'm actually not sure RTP would allow the winning entry to change language for the ESC, even if the composers wanted to.

Re: PORTUGAL 2017

The final will be held in the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon, one of the most prestigious venues in the country. The semi-finals will be held in the RTP studios.

A press conference will be held next thursday with all the composers and singers present. I would guess that the following week we will get snippets of the songs.

Re: PORTUGAL 2017

So another lame result coming our way.

You honestly think singing in English would change anything? Depending on the songs it could give you a little extra but not too much. Everyone is hoping that we take something in English because it's going to be the magic answer. But guess what? It's not going to be! If Leonor had sang "Há um mar que nos separa" in English it wouldn't qualify anyway because it was a sh*tty song. Actually, just take a look at Belarus in Eurovision. They always sing in English and they only managed to have one good result. And why? Because "Work your magic" was good.

Portugal's major problem is not the language. It's the quality of the songs. I couldn't care less if we sing in Portuguese or English. Each case is a case. It depends on the song and if it works better in Portuguese or English. There A LOT of good songs that are in Portuguese and would work very well in Eurovision. Like this:

Are the good? YES. Are they in Portuguese? YES! Would it work in Eurovision? F*ck yeah! But do we have this quality in our NF? No. RTP should focus on improving the quality of the composers which they are actually trying to do it now. It probably won't be perfect this time, but practice makes perfect and this is the first time that I see that they are trying to make an effort.

And no, I'm not against singing in english. I would love to have a song in English in esc, but I rather have an awesome song with great quality in portuguese than a crap in English.

What matters is the quality of the songs, and that is RTP's problem, not the language. If a song is good enough it will do well in the ESC, no matter wether it's in Portuguese or in English.
