Re: PORTUGAL 2017

For the first time ever RTP is allowing songs in English and other languages!

Barei say "hi" (not yay!)...

I don't want to overreact or anything, but among the good news the next Portuguese NF seems to bring, this line scares me, I feared that your broadcaster would open the door to English, and that time has come apparently. We might have a 100% English Eurovision edition afterall :(

I always admired Portugal for always singing in their language regardless of the result, I hope it won't change honestly.

I'm neutral towards the language. For me it can be Portuguese, English, Spanish, French or even Mirandese, as long as the song is good, even though I love the Portuguese language. But I think RTP should give the option to the artists and composers to choose what language they think fits better with their songs, as other broadcasters do.

I know what you mean, but let's be honest: when composers are allowed to choose a language other than their own, there is 98% chance that it will be English. :? Hence why I don't exactly jump for joy regarding this new "option".

Your country should go back to the native language...that step, Spain/France going for English, is the main reason for this...
My country also went for English two years in a row..hmm we will see...I thought Italy and Portugal will never do that, BUT, I have to say I thought the same for Spain and France, now everything is possible..

The fact that others are doing it isn't an excuse to do the same. I didn't like that move either from France, Spain last year (how ironic), and recently Israel and Serbia that ended up going for full English in the last two years. But I guess it's a debate I shouldn't bring up once more, although the idea of potentially having a full English Eurovision saddens me personally. This ongoing standardisation is just bad, everyone wants to sound the same.

Exactly, why yo don't want to discuss i? It's all right to discuss it from time to time, especially in topics like France, Serbia, Portugal, Spain, Italy..

Well, I don't mind discussing it :) But very few people here actually care about languages, so the rest will be like "what? this again? get over it"

Re: PORTUGAL 2017

It's about damn time. We have plenty of modern songs in our charts by portuguese acts sung in English. No reason to keep that stupid rule.
Now hopefully better artists and producers pop up

Re: PORTUGAL 2017

Starting today RTP will reveal the artists competing in FdC, one everyday. The HoD also said that they will likely release 30s-60s snippets of the song before the first semi-final.

Re: PORTUGAL 2017

RTP actually revealed all the singers from the first semi-final today, instead of just one!

Semi-Final 1:

01. Márcia (Composer: Márcia)
02. Golden Slumbers (Composer: Samuel Úria)
03. Fernando Daniel (Composer: Nuno Feist)
04. Deolinda Kinzimba (Composer: Rita Redshoes)
05. Rui Drummond (Composer: Héber Marques from HMB)
06. Lisa Garden, formerly known as Ana Bloom (Composer: Pedro Saraiva)
07. Salvador Sobral (Composer: Luísa Sobral)
08. Viva la Diva (Composer: Nuno Gonçalves from The Gift)

Very interesting list! Fernando Daniel was the winner of the most recent The Voice of Portugal, the 4th season, last year. He had the most viewed blind audition worldwide. Deolinda Kinzimba won season 3 and Rui Drummond won season 2 and was a part of 2B, the duo that represented Portugal in 2005.
Trio's members aren't revealed, but it is said that one of the members is quite famous. Márcia will sing her song herself and she is quite famous too.

Yesterday a rumoured list was published by escportugal.pt that included some of the names in this semi-final. It also included other well-known names, including Kika and FF! If Kika is revealed as an artist for the second semi-final I might actually faint!

EDIT: Viva la Diva''s lead singer is another Kika, the winner of X-Factor Portugal 1

Re: PORTUGAL 2017

If Fernando accepted it, the song can't be that bad, surely?

I agree! And I don't think Feist is that bad! I loved both Vanessa songs, specially Alvorada.

I think this 1st semi final is an astronomical improvement in terms of artist, compared to recent years. Great vocalist there! Now the big question mark here are the songs... Are they gonna measure to the amazing talents presented? Let's hope so!

And may this be the beggining of a great FdC Era!
