This seems to be facing some huge opposition too. Another indicator of a potentially decent result looming...

It's really crazy when you think Salvador didn't even top the televote:?
Thank God for juries in this instance being the voices of reason.

So last year's televoter's winner was Ukraine? Is it something I miss here? I'm afraid not though.

It wasn't the jury winner either which means it's not the jury only that counts.

Televote & jury agreed on winner: 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014
Televoters overruled juries: 2011
Juries overruled televoters: 2015
Neither juries nor televoters "won": 2016

Seems pretty even keel to me.

So the last two years "televoters' choice is not the winner" isn't that what I wrote in my first post?

Does it finally make a difference what people like or not?
Cause facts seem to provide a negative answer.

That would have been a more accurate statement. You said "During the last years viewers' votes do not count for the winner, only juries count".

The juries control everything
Definition: The juries voted for something I don't like
The televote is all diaspora/joke entries

When being confronted with a performance that looks and sounds as if it might very well be a reenactment of something that's a few decades old, it's all too often both outdated cheese and a Eurovision entry from the current year. The style of this song and the style chosen for its presentation on stage have long gone out of fashion as well but the performance doesn't fit in with the usual outdated Eurovision cheese. This performance is so far removed from the present era and what we are used to and expect that this alone might be enough to add a certain charm to it.

I think Salvador and the staging actually make this calm little song quite likable. I can really do without the usual outdated Eurovision ballads but I perceive this song as a nice addition. I like that Salvador tries something so different. It evokes the past instead of suggesting something fresh and new but it’s certainly interesting. Also I’m not sure how much his mannerism really reflects the era in which singers used facial expressions to go along with the content of their songs. It reminds me of that old style but I haven’t seen it like this before. There is also the question if something is good just because it seems so different or nostalgic.

I'm curious how this will fare in May and how the song will be staged in Kyiv. I don't know what he is singing and what the song is about. I think I’ve heard coração a few times but that’s not very specific. I understand that his presentation reflects what he is singing but the audience isn't used to and doesn't expect this kind of staging and few people in Europe can understand the lyrics. When I first watched the performance, I didn't know anything about the song and the presentation yet. I don't speak Portuguese either, so I was reminded of someone who suffers from a tic or some kind of disorder when I saw his movements on stage. Not everyone would go that far but I think this will look odd for many people. It's also a rather calm song and it's not modern either. I really don't know what to expect but I think due to the language barrier and the unfamiliar style it might struggle to connect with the mainstream audience. I expect it to do better with the juries.

I like this song as an addition to the contest. Salvador is charming on stage and it’s nice to see that he chose such a different style but at the same time the song is rather old-fashioned and not that exciting. I give it 8 points.

Lol, are people on some heavy drugs??

This is staying in the semi 100% and rightfully so. This will likely perform 2nd or 3rd.. I really want Portugal to do well in 2018 with a much better and competent and presentable performer (not someone that looked like he slept in a bus station for a month) and with a really good song (I don't see the appeal and there are songs..or should I say were songs in the past that were much better in its genre than this one). I get that people haven't heard music from that long ago and suddenly think this is an invention of some sort.
The NF in general was quite weak, as it was in Romania, but I think the televoting winner was better and could have used a revamp to sound more profound.

We don't know them.

While we don't know the detailed split results, we do know the averages. You'd be pretty hard-pressed to make a convincing case that Denmark didn't win the televote given that they had a comfortable average televote rank lead over Ukraine (4.97 to 5.66).

Even then, what the 2013 stats do show as an undisputable fact is that Denmark had the highest average televoting. So at the very least, it can't be used in any 'juries are destroying the public opinion' sort of arguments.
