Why is this song getting such a positive feedback? I mean already over 40 :12:s? :? Could anyone please explain it to me???

This isn't classy or vintage it's just waaaay to old-fashioned!! It doesn't do anything for me, boring melody, boring performance.. Would have done well in 1960 but certainly not in 2017!

But it still gets 3 points from me simply because it's not the WORST song this year which says a lot about this years song quality!

I'm not a fan of the song and probably won't end up actively listening to it but I was rooting for Salvador last night because Im interesting to see how this sort of song will do in the contest

Well what wonderful news to wake up to! :D So very glad he won, and it's been a delight looking over people's comments in here :') I am not in the superfangirling league over his victory, I will admit as it's not really my kind of music, but by the Gods he does it in such a way that I cannot help but enjoy it immensely. His talent is evident from the final where he did the full song without the backing track; some serious skills on show there. The song as well just has a certain charm about it. I'd be amazed if he does as well as people seem to think he will, but surely Europe has a place for this in the final at the very least? xpray

Anyone else think this could do an Italy 2011 ?
"Amar Pelos Dois" is a better song but the juries were really sucking Italys dick back in 2011 because of their return

This is song I gave 12 to. I don't know why, I just feel this singer has personality and knows what he tells. I can feel it even without knowing language. Usually I hate ballads but this is not typical ESC ballad at all. It has its unique flavor. Will be glad to see it winning in May.

I don,t see at all why People love it. For me is boring, i dislike his voice and the song looks so old.

0 Points

Still i could see the jury and some People really vote for it. So maybe Portugal could get a top 10 Place this year?

Well... I have to admit that this song is absolutely beautiful and mystical, though I'm not even moved by it.

Different strokes for different folks. I'll give you old-fashioned (simply because it is a style of music no longer listened to by the masses) but the song isn't "dated" as some are bound to say. The sooner we as a society get away from our need to feel cool and current the better. Even now the mainstream is grabbing onto ideas and styles from the past, at the same time trying to make whatever it is they're creating feel fresh and somehow relevant, all the while people will rubbish those taking from the past in the purest and most sincere way. Jazz music may not be popular but "Amar pelos dois" is an evergreen. We'll be looking back in 5 years at the pop and ballads competing at the contest today and be thinking "this hasn't aged well", whereas music like what Salvador is making stays forever beautiful to those who can let it into their hearts. When I listen to this song I attach nothing to it. No date, no stamp. I just hear the most beautiful piece of music.

This is an exquisitely composed song that's offering something very different to what we're used to at Eurovision. A delicate torch ballad performed by a charming man who's putting his heart into it. No screaming, showboating, not over produced or packing forced edginess. It's just piano, achingly beautiful strings and a poignant interpretation of a song this young mans sister wrote for him. Of course not everyone is going to like this, but it warms me inside to see how many people here appreciate it. It's a rare thing to have something so raw and sincere at the contest. Furthermore i'm not going to feel so alone like I did when supporting "Suus" back in 2012xheatxhug

Do be careful - the market can often overreact to a hype wave when an unusual song is revealed, shortening for a day or so and then gradually drifting back out for the rest of the season. There's no guarantee it'll happen here, of course - this song seems very much like an unpredictable dark horse - but don't assume that it'll continue to shorten just because it's got momentum. Finland 2015, while a very different song, was another entry in a niche genre that had huge momentum for a while (reaching odds of 6/1 in the outright market) before the hype bubble popped, odds drifted, and PKN failed to even qualify.

There's certainly a chance that this could surprise and win, but... do give it some thought before rushing in to bet.

RainyWoods I just thought I'd mention how much I liked the latest edition to your signature. The floating Salvador head is far funnier than it has any right to be.

I was certainly thinking this myself, though both are very different kinds of jazz. I do worry slightly that there might have been a bit of.... ermm.. sucking going on in 2011 for the reason you state, but at the same time Italy 2011 was a very strong entry and something refreshing for the contest. I think Salvador can capture the juries in a similar way.

I always wanted Valentina Monetta to come back to ESC performing her passion, jazz music. It's very much an untapped genre at the contest, and though public support may be difficult, I think the jury is able to strongly support quality jazz.

Why, thank you Zobo:lol: I had to place Salvador somewhere. I just recently changed my avatar to Ariel Pink and don't feel like getting rid of it yet. My obnoxiously large signature received a compliment the other day from EskGeek and to be honest, my body isn't quite ready yet to get rid of that moody black and white Nika from the Young Georgian Lolitaz picture, and my Godhat gif that's only there because someone decided to insult my Serhat glitter gif avatar I once hadxheart So I had to fit lil Salvador's head down therexlove I think I need Mikal Cronin on the other sidexheat I'll continue to make my signature even more obnoxious and a glorious hot wreck of an eyesore. I want to rival that guy on the forum who has his top ten on a colourful A4 piece of paper sized signature. He's my idol and inspiration.

For some reason Semi-Final 1 seems to end up much stronger than Semi-Final 2 every year

Remember semi-final 1 in 2010? without a doubt the worst semi-final ever.

Salvador and Amar Pelos Dois is receiving fantastic feedback in here. I'm a bit surprised to see how positive people are here, although I myself have given Portugal a big 10 this year.
But how will this fare in Kyiv? I am afraid Portugal will fare much worse in May than in this forum. There are several reasons for this.
1. I think this is just too slow and too quiet and down-scaled for most televoters watching on the 13th (I assume Portugal will be in the big Final). The ballads that have reached a top 10 for the last decade has normally had more power, or a more easy-listening refrain.
2. It's in portugese. Sadly this makes many loose much of the interest. I guess that portugese music and lyrics isnt very widespread in Europe (french, spanish and italian is a different case).
3. It's been said here to be old-fashioned and "dated" (a term I really hate when it comes to music), but there are definitely also people outsiden this forum that will think so. My theory is that the televoters' main age is not 60. And I think this will have more support amongst the more mature crowd.
4. Obviously; Portugal is not one of those many countries that can depend on high points from several neighbours when sending a quality (or popular) song.
5 The juries? I am confident that Amar Pelos Dois will be much more popular amongst the juries. I am sure the members of the juries have a higher mean age than the general televoter. But judging music is still a rather subjective matter! Just read the critics of music, theaterpieces, movies; the critics may be massively on the positive or negative side; but there will always be disagreement; simply because personal bias is always there. So for the same reasons as mentioned above I dont think Portugal will be the winner of the jury votes either.

But I am sure hoping for a top 10 for Portugal. It would be so deserved after all these years. And this song will be in my personal top 10 this year.

Oh god... I haven't seen him around yet this year, so I'd forgotten about that. You're bringing back traumatic memories of having to scroll slooooowly past that freaking massive signature on my little laptop screen

This will stand out 100%. How often do we hear songs like this anymore?

THIS, I don't even get why people compare this to the other ballads we have this year. I mean... why? you can like it, you can hate it or you can ignore it but it's not even similar to them xcrazy

The song is nice, even adorable, and will definitely stand out. It's none of my personal favourites and I really can't see them winning but I hope they do well, it's always nice to have something different in the competition.
