At least Sweden is putting some effort on their songs for Eurovision, unlike Portugal. HUMQNS was good on FDC this year, but later production even more ruined the song. Not either Nelly Furtado would've saved that song.

Hey, maybe that's the way Portugal should go?

If she asks Timbaland to help her, why not?

My favourite song from her is "Te busqué", an old one, which she sang with Juanes. Well, not precisely in Portuguese, but it was a good tune.

I liked this Spanish-language song: (I know, Timbaland didn't wrote it. :p )

For most Portuguese ESC songs, this is contemporary, eventhough it's released in 2009.

OMG, THIS!

"Manos al aire" is 50/50? Well, that's too much English for RTP. xlol

Actually, I think Portugal had very good song last year and Leonor put a lof of passion and proffesionalism in creating an unique vibe on the stage. To be honest, I like their non-commercial and far from the current mainstream approach. Right now ESC needs more of Portugal way of doing things rather than the Swedish one. Otherwise, everything will sound the same and created under a pattern. That's not what Eurovision stands for and Portugal as a country that brings some diversity in the line up should be always appreciated. It won't be the same without them really and they will be missed. Afterall, not every song in Eurovision should be the same recycled G:SON shit...

I think they have to ask Nelly to represent the country, now she's not popular anymore, she could easily walk the stage

I remember when Nelly Furtado was the biggest popstar in the world with her Timbaland-produced songs, ha those were the days :)

PamSwynford I'm appreciating and loving the "Try" video posted from you, that song is really underrated.

You see now! xcryxcryxcry

I knew that will happen, after they rejected EXTRAORDINARY Simone de Oliveira last year!! If they let her win and represent them in Vienna, they would reach TOP 5, and not withdraw this year... :( they SIMPLY HAD TO let that LEGEND win last year! xcry

I adore that song from the moment I heard it. It's just anthemic. xheart

EDIT: I've finally pulled out from my memory one of her songs which contains Portuguese! Can't find the original version, tho.

Even if she had won, she wouldn't had represented Portugal in Vienna. She had said BEFORE the final, that in case she would win, she would not go to Vienna. So her possible win would not have changed anything about the present situation.

Okay so following the news of Portugal withdrawal I started to think how the Macedonian general population feels about Portugal in Eurovision, and bad news Portugal and Cyprus are the only two "veteran" countries that have failed to leave an impact on casual watchers.
Every time I talk to non-eurovision fans these are the only two "veteran" countries nobody can remember entry from. Which is really bad news since my Mother still remembers Ein bißchen Frieden and still knows its lyrics and my grandmother was a big fan of Denmark 1963. So I'm left with the question is Macedonia the only country were Portugal left no impact?
Because if we aren't that is really bad news for Portugal which is sad.

I'm happy and relieved with this decision. It's far better not taking part than doing so and not taking the contest seriously at all and embarrassing most the Portuguese ESC fans (yes, because unfortunately, like DanielLuis said, the contest is not popular here anymore). Personally I only loved one song since 1998 and this was the 2009 entry. And yes, there was ESC before 2000 and Portugal had a few very good entries in the old era. But this has basically stopped since 1999. It's also unfortunate that the songs that have been chosen don't reflect even a bit of what the Portuguese music scene is. So, I'm hoping for either this "not interested in doing well" trend ending or for not taking part at all. As an ESC fan, I will keep enjoying this contest without Portugal in it.

I don't think so,
because most eurofans do like this entry:

I was talking about non-eurofans like my Mother and Grandmother. Do you know any Portugese Eurovision songs that made an impact on the general public.
