Re: PORTUGAL 2014

I was yesterday so sure that I was watching a final, but found out now that it was semfinal. But there won't be new songs anyway..so it doesn't matter much, they could have picked yesterday.

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

I still don't find suzy cheap..I will always fail to understand what pimba actually is.. LO :D

I enjoyed that performance so much..it's original to me..and smth new..it just gives me good vibes..

But I'm afraid for Portugal resultevise in May, with anything they pick actually.. :?

This is not even 'Pimba'! :D pimba means 'cheap' songs that refer to something nasty in a light way. For example: 'Maria, I want your codfish' (double meaning in :pt:, codfish means the fish and something else I won't mention here... :? Or another example: 'If they (women) want a hug or a kiss we (men) pimba'... (Considering the context, I suppose you understand what it means... :? xrofl2, This is were the word Pimba came from=nasty ,nautghy stuff, not expressed in a clear way, but playing with words and their meaning).

So, basically, people consider all kind of popular songs (with lyrics as naive as 'Quero ser tua' - I want to be yours' - As pimba. It's wrong! :D It might be horrible (I know it is :'D) it's not 'pimba' though. :D It's Portuguese schlager, this one is bad, others are bearable, and some are nice= schlager is different from pimba. I hope I helped here, Mrm. I'm 40yo, I saw 'Pimba' spreading like a disease when I was much younger and this is definitely NOT 'pimba'. :p

Definitely, Zana! I don't have hope (televoters will not pick this.) But if she went to Denmark, I would be satisfied. :) People say it's dated (as if dated songs couldn't exist... ) I think it's a genuine song, it somehow reminds of the Portuguese ESC history, back to the 60's in a more refined way).

Pimba is not only about naughty, sexual related, double meaning lyrics. It's also, and firstly, about a characterisc sonority, typical instrumentation, singers' general tacky appearance and cracky voices, and poor usage of the Portuguese language. Even pimba has several shades and varieties and of course this is pimba all the way.

I saw 'Pimba' spreading like a disease when I was much younger'.

So true! It sort of started when private TVs came along. They're the ones who've done it. Even radios never play this kind of music, unless they are very specific, regional like.

One thing is sure, last night showed that we'll continue to be the laughing stock of the eurovision community for many years.

I kind of miss our bland-ish sweet ballads now. At least there was some sort of music involved in them and people were able to sing. Oh, how can I even think this?

I can see RTP laughing so hard now, like evil funny bunnies in some sort of after party gathering, out of the poisoned present they gave to us.
What a sick trick!

The semi-final was the 7th most watched programme of the day, with a 7.6 rating and 17.1% share. Underwhelming results.

2) My Top

4Catarina Pereira: 6 pts, song is too repetitive.
5 Suzy: 5 pts
6 Ivo Lucas 4,5 pts
7 Raquel Guerra 3pts
7 Carla Ribeiro 3 pts

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

Hey, why are Portuguese users so upset? I didn't watch the show, I've just watched the qualifiers and I think that's a good selection. The only one that I can say is really bad is Raquel Guerra.

About the rest:

- Catarina Pereira: well, "Canta por mim" meets "La La love". I loved both songs so I have to like this. But Catarina better improve her vocals, because if she wins juries will butcher her in ESC. Come on, it's not a difficult song at all and she's not dancing too much. In general, the staging, dresses, everything was so ESC 2000.... :?

- Zana: this is a great song. It reminds me a little bit to Cyprus 2008, which I love, but we know it didn't do too well in ESC.... :? The problem is, again, the singer. Neither Catarina or Zana are worthy of great songs like "Mea culpa" and "Nas asas da sorte".

- Rui: I'm not too fond of this kind of ballads, but we must reckon he gave the best performance out of the 5 finalists. The song starts boring but keeps growing and in the end I kinda like it. Rui does a fantastic job here.

- Suzy: I quite like the instrumental parts, but the rest are so dull. It starts great and it suddenly becomes a waste when she starts singing (she doesn't sing bad, but the melody she's singing is quite meh).

So I'm not sure. Rui is the best performer by far, but he doesn't have the best song. "Mea culpa" and "Nas asas da sorte" are the best songs, but Catarina Pereira has a big lack of voice and Zana has a little lack of voice and another little lack of charisma.

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

I think the biggest problem for "Mea culpa" is that it sounds like one big 3 minute block xshrug The chorus really doesn't stick out :| It just feels flat...no highlights in song or performance xdoh

And what makes it look worse is that Catarina is performing as if she's trying to defend her ticket to Copenhagen not win it xfacepalm She looked flat, stiff, passionless and too rehearsed. She really shouldn't be looking that nervous considering her experience. Hopefully she loosens up and look like she's have more fun in the final

Re: PORTUGAL 2014

The sound was terrible, I've read that it was a real problem in the rehersals. I think the place they picked to have this show was a wrong choice. xthink Anyway, I only like Zana's song.
