Re: KAZAKHSTAN 2014

We should invite Saudi Arabia to Eurovision xbow xrofl3

Well Qatar wants to enter... I'm pretty sure EBU would kiss their feet even

But seriously though, I already argued for why I think Kazakhstan should be let in, I simply consider them a partly European country... that cannot be said about the others in any shape or form

Ukraine is fully in Europe and has always been. Russia, on the other hand... Regarding to what A-lister said earlier, all people who have a Russian citizenship are Russians, no matter whether they live in the Asian part or in the European part.

I know that they are in Europe, but for me it also depends on the European culture. I just don't think that this is the case with Ukraine (like Belarus). I can't even explain it, it's just my feeling that they shouldn't compete in the contest.

Ukraine IS a European country, there's nothing to discuss... it's ridiculous to state anything else really because it's simply untrue.

Maybe it doesn't belong to the Western/Northern European culture (while Western Ukraine is culturally similar to Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic)... but it is 100% a European country AND culture.

Ukraine and Belarus are culturally European in 100%. I know some people who have been in both and they say that culturally-wise, it's more or less the same as any other ex-communist country.

But if you're comparing it to the western European countries, then yeah, Ukraine might seem very different.

I know that and already stated that it is more of a feeling. I just prefer a smaller Eurovision which consists basically of European Union members (+EFTA countries). Some countries who aren't part of the European Union yet want to join in the next few years anyway like Serbia and Croatia. For these countries there could be a transitional arrangement.

That might be my problem as I have a feeling that countries like Estonia and Poland are more Western orientated than Ukraine for example.

Oh so you simply want a Western-Eurovision then?

Well, then I'd stop...

Either it's EUROvision or it's not... and EUROvision imo should include all independent recognized states that lies within the European continent (even partly)... I'm also ok with the non-European ones that are in now, but I'm opposing any more non- European geographical expansion though. Then I agree it would get too big for its own good... and it wouldn't really be EUROvision any longer.

Take it from someone that visited Ukraine twice, the western parts atleast are pretty similar in culture to Poland and Slovakia. The Eastern and Southern parts are pretty russified though, but Russian culture is still an European culture nevertheless.

Well, obviously that is the case. It's about economic reforms and European integrity.

1st step: A-lister wants Kazakhstan to join ESC
2nd step: Kazakhstan joins ESC
3rd step: Kazakhstan orders ESC entries from Swedish producers
4th step: A-lister bashes Kazakhstan for ruining ESC

Yes, that's basically it. However, it wouldn't be a pure Western European contest as the Baltics, Romania, Bulgaria and so on would still participate.

So a "EU-vision" then? xshrug

Well, I don't agree with your vision but each to their own...

Well, it seems as if the contemporary music scene in Kazakhstan is much more developed than in Georgia and Azerbaijan atleast... so hopefully that wouldn't be the case.

But yeah, I'd be the first in line to bash them if that would happen

Again and endless discussion about Kazakhstan.... And most probably they will not join, at least this year.

I'm still against. I have nothing against this country, but doesn't seem European for me. To me it would be like having Mongolia in ESC. And they are out of the boradcasting area, as far as I know, so they better join Asiavision if that ever happens.

Well, the Mongolia comparison proves the lack of knowledge really... I don't blame you though because the country is pretty unknown to the general westerner... but truth is this country really has more in common with the Russia-Ukraine-Belarus trio than any Asian country.

And again, it's partly within the continental Europe... so the anti in here relies simply on pro-western biasism and a fear of more bloc/diaspora voting...

Well, TBH yes I'm pretty opposed to a Kazakhstan debut because of the Soviet bloc (which would then comprise no less than 11 countries) but especially because I'm pretty sure they'll do like Georgia and Azerbaijan and just throw money at a Swedish produced entry.

Kazakhstan, as they actually do have a physical landmass in europe should be free to compete in ESC and I would welcome then. And as some people have pointed out they close connections to Russia and Russia is an european nation more or less. Kazakhstan yes, quater and morocco no.

I don't think they would hire Swedish songwriters as their internal contemporary music scene seems more developed and well produced than Georgia and Azerbaijan. But never say never, Russia has relied on a Swedish team atleast twice now, and they have a large enough music industry on their own, but I think the problem has more to do with the current rules in ESC and the direction of the contest (which has been boosted by the re-introduction of juries I must add) than anything else.

Re: KAZAKHSTAN 2014

Well, since this thread has mostly been a discussion about whether or not Kazakhstan should be allowed to enter (which imo has more to do with a pro-western bias and lack of knowledge about the country than anything else), I'd like to bring back the focus to the music again and qoute a previous post of mine

Some Kazakh contemporary music:

Dinara Sultan

FM

KeshYou

Metis's
