Re: KAZAKHSTAN 2014

Why are we discussing Kazakhstan when they aren't taking part in the 2014 ESC and won't for the foreseeable future?

Because there's a thread and for some reason people continued the discussion even with the knowledge that they're not entering this year

Because we're allowed to talk about them in general. Why do you care?

First of all don't be so sure that they won't join in the future. We need more and more countries to take part in the contest.(EBU has to fo something for this).
Secondly talking about me I would be extremely happy if :kz: take part cause it's from my fave countries. Finally we have the right to speak, haven't we?

Maybe because west Kazakhstan is in Europe? Ok the biggest part is in Asia, but the European part is even bigger then many other European countries...
I hope they will join in future, with an amazing song in their Kazakh language, with parts of their overtone singing, ethnic instruments, mixed with electronic )))

This!

People seem to forget that Kazakhstan is a partly European country which also is culturally closer to Europe than freaking Bahrain that has no actual European ties but lies within the EBU broadcasting area xshrug

And yes to the latter too.

I'm not against Kazakhstan joining the contest, but if they'd prefer sending Swedish westernized standard songs like Georgia and Azerbaijan, then I don't see the point.

Let's bring back the whole Europe before looking towards Central Asia.

I actually don't think they'll import from Sweden...

Plus Kazakhstan is partly in Europe... of course I want to bring back the lost European countries too but we could still make it possible for a :kz: debut too xshrug

They better not import from Sweden! They have a pretty decent local music industry, they can do better than importing tracks from overseas.

I wonder if their debut would actually happen though

Mhm!

I don't see it happening tbh, there's strong forces within the EBU now to cater to the west and they don't want another ex-USSR member in that's for sure xshrug

Re: KAZAKHSTAN 2014

Is that so?! Could you explain what's happening there, then? :(

Well, it's more of a feeling I got... I mean the juries were brought back partly to minimize what some westerners refer to as "bloc" voting for instance xshrug

As I said, I'm really not against a Kazakh debut and of course, if they decide to join, I'd like to hear what they have to offer. Plus I love their flag.

As Russia, Georgia and Azerbaijan seem to shamelessly import songs from somewhere else (and not always for the better..) and as Kazakhstan isn't that far from them, I guess they could also "play safe" music-wise, which is not what I want. In that case, there is no point in joining imo.

To me, priority must be given to countries like Slovakia and Czech Republic. The more, the merrier of course, but before extending the European map, the EBU should look more closely if there isn't a hole in Central Europe.

I guess we can only speculate on if Kazakhstan would pull an "Azerbaijan", but atleast their music market seems more developed so one could never know xshrug

I mean looking at previous years ESC, about 1/3 of the countries imported their entries, so it's not just Azerbaijan and Russia that are doing this unfortunately (although Azerbaijan has been taking it to an extreme).

I also want countries back, it feels so odd with this hole right in the heart of Europe aswell with half of the balkans out aswell, but I think we could work on both getting those back aswell as maybe letting Kazakhstan enter, I mean it would be just one debut anyways... plus Liechtenstein could debut too ;)

My hope is multiple countries will return for the 60 years and hopefully stay. We've already got Turkey saying they will return. Maybe they'll influence more Central and Eastern countries to join again

This is a non argument :) It's Eurovision so Kazakhstan can join if they want. I don't see why not? Even if they will choose a Swedish song, it is their choice. If we will say that Kazakhstan can not join because it is only partly in Europe, what will we do with Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cyprus and Israel?
It's a little bit strange to say that a country can not join if they decide to choose a Swedish song!

I didn't say that they cannot join, just that I don't see the point if they don't send local material. We've got enough Swedens.
I know that the countries you mentioned are on the "borders of Europe" (if we can say such a thing), but they are already in, aren't they? At some point, one has to define where Europe begins and ends : otherwise, let's rename the contest.

What it matters? They can send what they want, it is not up to you! It's a fact that they are partly in Europe, so they can join ESC ))
Your argument about Swedens is just a ********. And already almost all countries don't send so much local songs anymore. Countries are changing, cultures are changing, and so is music...
About the border, the official border of Europe ends at the Ural in Russia and Kazakhstan, and in the south in the Caucasian mountains of Georgia and Azerbaijan.
Geographical Armenia, Israel, and Cyprus are fully in Asia.
