Re: KAZAKHSTAN 2014

I didn't say that they cannot join, just that I don't see the point if they don't send local material. We've got enough Swedens.
I know that the countries you mentioned are on the "borders of Europe" (if we can say such a thing), but they are already in, aren't they? At some point, one has to define where Europe begins and ends : otherwise, let's rename the contest.

Why do you expect them to send Swedish stuff???

I actually want a rule in ESC which states that entries representing countries have to be made by locals, or atleast partly so, or by people that are integrated in those music markets. Alot of countries are guilty of importing entries, you just assume Kazakhstan would do the same because Azerbaijan has been doing that? But that's just assumptions xshrug

Also what do you mean by that? Kazakhstan is de facto a part of geographical Europe, they have a larger European part than Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan got xshrug

I totally agree with you that we should have no further- non geographical expansion of Eurovision, but allowing them and not Kazakhstan would be just hypocrisy imo xshrug

That would be a HUGE revolution for the EBU, since it was decided in 1955 by Marcel Bezençon and C° that the broadcasters would have total freedom on how to choose their entry. This rule has never been modified since and I doubt that it ever will be...

But back then with the language rule and all there weren't as many imports as now, so I think now would be the time to actually look into the rules. I mean the concept oughta be entries representing their countries, if 1/3 of entries are imported abroad then the concept is just empty words xshrug

Maybe because the neighbouring countries tend to go for imports, and some countries tend to be easily influenced when it comes to be successful by all means. That's why I think and fear. And indeed, that's just assumptions, I was originally reacting to wlhwlm who said it'd be great if Kazakhstan ideally debuted with an amazing song with ethnic instruments.

Somehow I feel like Kazakhstan would be a country wanting to stick to their heritage a bit more...

Especially after Borat, I feel like they want to show off the real them!

Nevertheless these are just assumptions, and like I said we had plenty of countries guilty of the same thing (I mean look at Ireland, for the past years they seem to be relying mostly on Swedish imports aswell).

If we compare to Azerbaijan, I sense that the Kazakhstan music scene is more developed also. Nevertheless, we can't block countries based on assumptions of what they potentially might send? As I said, I'd rather see a change of rules in ESC instead.

I hope Kazakhstan will make their debut next year, it feels like it's the country that's the closest to do so. I really feel like Qatar and especially Kosovo could enter to, I want ALL COUNTRIES to enter!!! When do you think we will se the next debuting country?

I want Kosovo as Albania is my favourite Eurovision country by far and I can sense a Rona Nishliu comeback if they were to enterxheat

It would be nice to see a new country in Eurovision but i'm unsure when we'll see the next one.

Kosovo would be a bit problematic considering there's atleast a handful (if not more) countries in ESC that don't even recognize it as a country.

Qatar? Now that would be dreadful for Eurovision, it's called EUROvision afterall... no more non- European continental expansion thank you very much, unless you want Parodyvision that is xshrug

But I assume you're ok with Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia (far less continental parts of Europe than Kazakhstan) and Armenia (non- continental European part)? xshrug

Well although not aimed at me I will answer because I agree with GRE. I don't want Kazakhstan in because the ex-USSR block is big enough thank you, and I want countries in Europe like Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Slovakia and the ex-yugoslav countries to return before Kazakhstan decide to join. As for Qatar, they're nowhere near Europe, its a stupid idea to let them in. I doubt anyone would vote for them anyway (unless they buy votes). Now for Turkey I don't want them in, I'm happy they withdrew. Eurovision is a better place without them. Small parts of Georgia and Azerbaijan are actually within Europe, which i'm sure is more than proportional to the part of Kazakhstan in Europe, so why has Kazakhstan got more of a right than them?. I would Prefer if Armenia wasn't in as it is not even within europe. Israel is a different issue, while its not in eurovision it has been competing since way before I was born (about 23/24 years) so it has an established position and the same for Cyprus.

Okey I agree about Qatar, but it doesn't feel like the European countries you've mentioned will join again for a long time... But I really hope so! Or that Liechtenstein would join, but that doesn't feel realistic for now...

I doubt they would joint any time soon as well. If Belgium of Netherlands won again then Luxembourg might return. If Poland or Hungary won, then Slovakia might give it a smash again. Czech republic is a lost cause.

They will mostly return next year probably. (Serbia has said that it is doing so) I put them down because they had withdrew this year.

Because they will be part of the ex USSR block? So basically you don't want Kazhakstan in because they're a threat to the UK and might not vote for it, and you want Luxembourg in because they might throw the UK some votes
Kazhakstan is in Europe, at least partially, so they have the same right as Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, and even Israel for that matter.
