Re: KAZAKHSTAN 2014

Because they will be part of the ex USSR block? So basically you don't want Kazhakstan in because they're a threat to the UK and might not vote for it, and you want Luxembourg in because they might throw the UK some votes
Kazhakstan is in Europe, at least partially, so they have the same right as Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, and even Israel for that matter.

No. Just no. I'm not saying that at all, What I meant is that they will probably vote heavily for Russia every year despite the song. Russia does well enough from other countries and I don't want another country added to that list. For luxembourg, I wasn't thinking that at all. What makes you think they would vote for the UK? Netherlands and Belgium or even Germany and France regularly vote for us. We've had more votes from Albania since 2009 (15) than France, Belgium and Netherlands put together (9), Heck most of eastern Europe has voted for us more in one contest than Belgium and Netherlands have since 2009. I want Luxembourg back because they have had a very long tradition with eurovision and was one of the founding members...

Apparently so

But really, there's a definition of what is geographical Europe, and whether people like it or not, :kz: belongs there.

I don't think that's a valid reason to deny participation to a country though. Because they'll vote for Russia? I don't see every single ex-USSR country give their 12 to Mother Russia every year (thankfully), what makes you think that would happen with Kazhakstan? Sure, the probabilities are higher for Russia than other countries to receive their 12, ignoring the song that is. But the song counts, and just like, for example, Azerbaijan gave a big fat 0 to Russia in 2013, Kazhakstan could do the same!

I would like to see Vatican City State enter next year.

They do have a broadcaster, the Vatican Radio, so it's not entirely impossible

Talking about that, Kazhakstan hasn't been approved in the EBU yet. Their national broadcaster K-1, is still waiting for EBU's decision. So it is unlikely to see Kazhakstan debuting in 2015, but not unlikely in the next few years, as K-1 will probably eventually be accepted and I guess one of the first things they would do is enter Eurovision.

Actually Azerbaijan did give points to Russia but the EBU took half of them away cause they thought there was something "fishy" about them. So of course with the new system that led to 0 points overall. I think it was the jury votes they took away otherwise I think they were suppose to give Russia 10 points or something like that.

Please! We have allready an oil Caucasian dictatorship in the contest.
I don't want any more.
They just bring corruption and scandals and descreditation of the ESC. And they use their victory only as inside political factor to justify the dictatorship.

We have two corrupt oil/gas dictatorships in ESC = Russia and Azerbaijan.

Then we have another dictatorship called Belarus. Ukraine was more or less a dictatorship for the past years aswell, and then we got pseudo democracies Armenia, Sweden and others....

In other words following this "logic", we should have to throw out a bunch of countries.

No, he's right. Four songs of Fredrik Kempe in the Melodifestivalen final : that's really pseudo democracy.

Not kidding, but not on-topic so won't add much more to that... point being that if we are to block countries based on their democracy level then let's not be hypocrites about it atleast.

I find these kind of comparisons ridiculous and dangerous. Even if there might be problems in countries like Sweden, this has NOTHING to do with the situation in countries that are REALLY pseudo democracies. By putting this on the same level, you mock the victims of real opression and corruption.

That's why I called some pseudo democracies and some dictatorships duh...

Tbh pseudo democracies are in some ways worse because they are built on an illusion of being democracies, in the others atleast everyone knows they're not.

Though again this is off-topic, the point was that there are more non-democratic states in ESC than Azerbaijan and if we are to pick countries based on democracy level, then we should point our fingers at more.

That is no reason at all to call Sweden a pseudo democracy. That's what I was pointing at. But you're right. This is off-topic. Let's drop that issue.

Re: KAZAKHSTAN 2014

The best approach is to pick countries based on their song level. People in every country have the right to choose alone what type of country do they want and this is not something important in Eurovision. If Azerbaijan for example wants to be governed by Aliev and his family we should totally respect that and we even should not care about that. If people in Belarus, Azerbaijan and so on do not want their dictators, they will kick them out no matter what like the situation in Eastern Europe 25 years ago. Some calls to ban countries from Eurovision based on their internal politics are so pathetic, beyond all possible borders. Even if country has a problems with human rights, we should encourage this country to take part in the contest so that we could send a message to the people living there and they could feel being part of bigger community. Why we should isolate them? And talking about democracy and human rights it's really funny how all these calls for ban, exclusion, throwing away are coming from Western Europe, pretendeng to be role model for democracy and human rights. Am I wrong or building walls instead of bridges is not the right way to solve this?
